Five Takeaways From The Jan. 6 Hearings.  First and foremost, Trump was at the center:

They made it clear that, for all his ongoing bluster about stolen elections, Mr. Trump had knowingly spread claims about election fraud that people closest to him knew were false, tried to use the apparatus of government and the courts to cling to power, and then when all of that failed, sat back approvingly in the White House as a mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol threatening to hang his vice president.

Rethugs Favor Gun ‘Rights’ Over Stopping Gun Violence.  7 out of 10 in this survey:

Overall, Americans were more likely to say that controlling gun violence is more important, 59 to 35 percent. Among gun owners, as you might expect, protecting gun rights was the majority position, although only barely.

The biggest divide, in fact, wasn’t on gun ownership. It was by party. Democrats said that controlling gun violence was more important by a nearly 90-point margin. Independents said the same, more narrowly. Among Republicans, though, more than two-thirds said protecting gun ownership was more important — a higher level of support than even among gun owners themselves.

“Ryan is a friend. He’s got a family. He’s got six kids. And the FBI dragged him out of his house in front of his six kids,” DePerno said. “That’s not what we do.”

A 19-page action claims that Ms. McGuiness engaged in “abusive conduct” against plaintiff and former Chief Administrative Auditor Kathleen Davies and detailed allegations in a Superior Court filing on May 31.

The lawsuit pointed to supposed multi-day training events for office staff in the spring of 2019 that were located at a contracted hotel five blocks away. The auditor’s office had an adequately sized and regularly used training room that had been used during the same period, documents said.

Eventually, according to the suit, Ms. Davies requested the Whistleblower and Workplace Violence reporting contact from the Auditor’s Office. Chief of Staff Spiros Mantzavinos allegedly failed to take any action on the request, according to the suit.

Additionally, Ms. McGuiness and Mr. Mantzavinos “would regularly engage staff in playing games of corn hole toss directly in the center of the work areas at various hours throughout the workday outside of time allotted to said employees for regularly scheduled breaks and lunch periods.”
