Nit Picking Loudell
What’s up with Loudell’s word choices? Why does he keep saying, “In the aftermath of the Obama speech…”
“Aftermath” means that which happens after a major event – but it denotes a negative event like a flood or disaster.
Does Loudell really think Obama’s speech was a disaster?

I don’t think “aftermath” necessarily has the connotation you suggest.
I don’t know for sure, but I might’ve ad-libbed the word “fallout” today. If so, I didn’t mean to, as “fallout” to me DOES carry a more negative connotation, probably because of its use in connection with nuclear releases!
To your rhetorical question about whether I thought President Obama’s speech was a disaster, of course you jest.
Regardless of one’s political philosophy, I don’t think any student of speechwriting and delivery could fault this Presidential address.
I believe I’ve watched every single Presidential address to a joint session of Congress — “State of the Union” or otherwise — since I was attending college in the middle ’70s’.
President Obama’s address HAS to be among the best, if not the very best. Exceptional writing, connection with his audience, emotive delivery, etc.
Far superior to the President’s Inaugural speech.
Realistic Republican operatives will concede the quality of that Presidential address while disputing the policy positions.
I just wonder if this ambitious President has set the goal posts TOO high.
And, of course, delivering the opposition response is always a challenge… difficult to compete with ANY President appearing in that majestic chamber!
But for the still rather ‘green’ Governor Jindal to appear after this Presidential address was not a favor to Jindal.
The Biden stuff is interesting, and I have it all in my WDEL blog.

Thanks for commenting Allan. If I’m overly suspicious I blame Bush.
Allan’s Biden blog post. Good stuff!
As for Jason — should I be suspicious that your spelling was impeccable in this post “nit-picking” Allan Loudell?
It was a disaster for the Republicans, especially Jindal.
hyphen use? No way.
Jindall was a total idiot. What was that backdrop with the spiral staircase and him coming out like he was at the white house. If this buffoon is all the repukes have….the party of no will loose even more seats in 2010. Countdown reports his speech was childish, even the republicans spoke against him, all except Rush the drug addict.
Tax cuts, tax cuts cant they come up with a different mantra.
I find it interesting that Stigletz Prof. of Columbia is not buying Obama’s bailout the bankers! Housing dropped another 5% last month, and there is no way the banksters/gangsters are going to loan the working people of this country any money. The only way we can have a vibrant economy again is until we get our home equity back, so the banks will loan us money (cuz we can always borrow against our home equity)….Obama is using the trickle down plan….and I am worried it will not work. Workers cannot afford to support this economy after paying mortagage, health care etc…we are doomed financially. Its time to use the French method of dealing with our politicans and bankers….the guilotine is an option or mass protests in the streets. Stigletz is the best.
When Allan can start doing Harry Kalas imitations, then you can nit-pick on him. Until then, you already have enough targets on the other side.
While El Somnambulo sometimes believes he detects a hint of bias in Loudell’s work, he can’t believe how lucky Delaware is to have someone who can intelligently discuss national and world affairs with top reporters with such knowledge and…aplomb (‘Bulo figures this might be a Loudellism).
ditto what ‘Bulo said
we complain, Allan, but we know we can’t do without you.
