Delaware’s Legislators Of The Week: March 25-27, 2025

Only three distinguished themselves, all for the same reason.  These three legislators brought forward thoughtful and worthwhile improvements to the Musk-Pass SS1/SB 21 bill.  These were not, to be clear, the equivalents to the throw-sand-in-the-gears RWNJ amendments consistently introduced en masse during abortion debates.  These amendments were carefully-crafted and deserved serious consideration.

The fact that they were not seriously considered reflects negatively on the Mindless Minions who sat there, didn’t listen, didn’t engage, then voted against every amendment.  It reflects even moreso on the Speaker, whose carefully-constructed facade as a benevolent caretaker of the institution crumbled.  Crumbled in public for everyone to see.  No putting that back together, Mimi.

Let’s also look at the subtext of what went on, and what’s going on, here.  There is clear resentment on the part of the Mindless Minions and their leaders towards Working Families Party-endorsed candidates who end up winning.  I guess they resent the threat of facing challengers who would hold them accountable for their record.  OK, they just outed themselves.  I guarantee you that some of them won’t be back.  Because they suck as legislators.  Because progressive candidates/elected officials and their policies are popular.  Because they already have primary opponents, announced or otherwise.

But, I digress.

Our two Honorable Mentions are Representatives Frank Burns and Sophie Phillips.  Both, not coincidentally, were endorsed by the Working Families Party.  Both drew the animus of the Speaker for having had the gall to propose well thought-out amendments to the corporate law bill.  I still can’t get over the overt hostility the Speaker showed these two legislators.

Our Legislator Of The Week is Madinah Wilson-Anton.  Her serene ability to unmask both the Mindless Minions and the bill’s ‘expert’ proponents was genius.  The very fact that she did this while in the midst of a religious fast was flat-out amazing.  She demonstrated the judgement and demeanor that a Speaker Of The House should have.  That she’s also almost certainly the smartest legislator in Dover only adds to her value.  If there’s anyone in Dover who should have no ceiling, it’s Rep. Wilson-Anton.

These three House members are easy (the only?) choices for our Legislators Of The Week.

Check out Mimi’s “pledge of collegiality” from Inauguration Day in Dover. I thought it was a weak pledge anyway, but she’s fallen short of even that.

Also – was she the one responsible for that OBSCENE display of religious fervor on Inauguration Day? We don’t need Baptist choirs and false claims of virtue on the basis of faith. The proceedings that day were not inclusive or respectful of the Muslim, Jewish, Atheist, & Agnostic legislators or their guests. Religion has no place in state proceedings.

I;m extremely disappointed in Mara Gorman for voting for this. We need to hold her feet to the fire for the rest of session.

    • She at least explained her vote, and it made sense.

She viewed it as ’emergency legislation’ that was needed because the State has/had not been doing enough to diversify their economic base.
