Operation Chaos
Remember Rush Limbaugh and his Operation Chaos, where he wanted his mindless followers to change their party registration from Republican to Democratic so that they could vote for Hillary Clinton in the Pennsylvania primary and in other states so as to prolong the divisive Democratic primary?
Well, Delaware is two steps away from making it easier for Rush to do that here in the First State. Senate Bill 9, sponsored by Sen. Dave Sokola, D-Newark, would move the deadline for changing your party registration from six months before a primary to three weeks before. Now, yes, the deadline to register to vote is also three weeks before the election, and so moving the changing parties deadline to coincide with it makes perfect sense. And yes, six months before is definitely too long and must be changed. And I can’t offer a deadline that makes more sense than three weeks.
Perhaps having idiots like Rush promoting mischief like he did in Pennsylvania is a necessary side effect to making it easier to register to vote.
Three weeks? You got to be kidding. That’s barely turn-a-round time for any error to occur. And you know that’s going to happen. Make it 6 weeks. Take pity on those lil ol’ poll workers checking people in, and the updates and changes are all messed up.
The way I see it, R’s changing to D so they can vote in a primary and then change back to R later, is like those mail-in rebates. Most people forget to mail in the card to get the rebate, and the manufacturer gets to keep it.
For the analogy-impaired, the D’s are like the manufacturers who get to keep the switched Republicans.
Rush is a gift that keeps on giving.
Make it a month, Joanne. That seems reasonable.
I think the deadline should be short. I’m not worried about “Operation Chaos” types. I think they are a very small portion of voters so they don’t have a big influence.
The GA should change the date of the primary elections from fall to spring…..that would really help those challenging incumbents……
why would intrenched machine parties want to help people who are challenging incumbents?
OFF TOPIC, but may I say that the content on DelawareLiberal this week has been outstanding!
You Go! Contributors and Commenters both. Thanks for an interesting and news-full week.
In Dunn v. Blumstein, 405 U.S. 330 (1972), the Supreme Court held that a state could not impose a residency requirement of greater than thirty days to be able to register to vote. That wasn’t specifically a thirty-day maximum on being able to register, because Tennessee, at the time, allowed registration up to thirty days prior, but had a longer residency requirement.
If a state cannot impose a residency requirement of greater than thirty days, it must, as a practical matter, allow registration at least up to that point. It seems wildly impractical to say that you can register to vote up to thirty days prior, but that you can’t change an existing registration.
a. price: they do not want to help…that is my point. The Dirty Dems is De are controlling the party….elections are not performed on a level playing field. It’s crooked as a dog’s hind leg.
Seconded, Rebecca.
it was a rhetorical question SRC:)
