What Do We Need Out of Our Next President?

Filed in Uncategorized by on June 19, 2007

I was just reading a little bit about Michael Bloomberg speaking at Google yesterday.  He said that whoever wins the Presidency has a lot to do to repair this country and its standing in the world.  Bloomberg seems to be positioning himself as a non-partisan candidate (if indeed, he is a candidate).  Here’s the question – do we need (or even want) a non-partisan?  Or do we need a partisan on the other side that will undo the evil that has been wrought?

You know what I am going to say.

Sadly I don’t think any of the Dems (aside from maybe Edwards) wants to be that partisan Democrat.

Meanwhile, the unapologetically partisan Republicans will fire up the base and make whatever Democrat “centerists” who gets the nomination look wishy washy by comparison.

It is sickening that Democrats still don’t get it.

It’s going to take a Democratic President working with a Democratic Congress to undo all the damage that Bu$hCo has done. If they have to fight across political lines it will slow them down and there isn’t any time to waste if we are going to save our democracy.

You need an independent who didn’t go along with either party’s ruling factions that combined to take us to war.

What a novel thought….a president who can play both parties off against each other in Congress.

You would either see compromises and mediation leading to real progress…..or the re-emergence of the Democratic-Republican (or Republican- Democratic Party) to STOP COLD THE CRAZY TROUBLESOME INDEPENDENT IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

Whatever we need, Michael Bloomberg isn’t it.

    On that we can agree.

Agreed, but the need for political organization and cold, hard cash will prevent this result. The party machines are controlling our lives. They either need to get rid of their mentality of ‘winning at all costs” or we’ll be stuck with mediocrity, no matter what the party.

Unfortunately, in both of the major political parties, both locally and nationally, if “you ain’t in, you ain’t in”.

    And that’s a damn shame.

    P.S. Ditto on Bloomberg.l

  7. How about a President who has an idea of where the country needs to be in the next generation and has ideas on how to get us there?
