Around the Horn Friday: Evening Edition
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Down With Absolutes
Harrington Raceway CEO Patti Key lied to the General Assembly.
The wingnuttey WGMD rails against equality, or as it is known legislatively, HB5.
Liveblogging the HB 5 Senate Executive Committee Hearing.
Mike tells a Representative that he loves low voter turnout and thus opposes HB 117.
But he does stand strong for equality, and he blasts off a letter to all 21 Senators over the Exec committee’s vote against HB 5.
He liveblogs the Revolution: Karen Peterson moving to bring HB1 (Open Government) to the floor.
Peach Pie is now the official desert of Delaware? What happened to Rita’s Italian Water Ice? Or a Charcoal Pit Triple Thick Chocolate Shake?
Matthews is a good legislative blogger, but I really do not think Rep. Longhurst is delaying a vote on HB117 (November School Board elections) just because he was in the house.
SB 106 (Energy Efficiency) is introduced.
Kavips
He celebrates the passage of the Sports Gambling bill as a win for all Delawareans and tears Sen. DeLuca a new one on his vote in the Exec committee against HB5.
Delaware Watch
The Manufacturered Home Landlords are not liking life with a new sheriff in town.
Dana calls Jack Markell out on payday loans.
Delaware Politics
David Anderson reminds us that the State Constitution forbids sports gambling. Just a minor detail.
Burris and Andersondon’t like John Kowalko or his policies, while Burris has a message for the Harrington raceway.
David Anderson wants to have Thurman Adams’ children.
RSmitty opposes HB117.
Burris heralds the bipartisan introduction of SB96, a bill that would make it illegal for any member of the General Assembly to be employed by the State of Delaware. And for the first time in all history, Dave Burris and I agree: this bill is a great idea, yet it will never pass. The self interest of legislators on both sides of the aisle will necessitate its failure.
DANIELLO V. MCGLINCHEY
And then we have tomorrow’s battle royal between incumbent Democratic Party chair John Daniello and challenger and labor leader Brian McGlinchey. You can read reactions, analysis and the endorsements below.
Mike has the Announcement.
Kavips thinks McGlinchey is the future, despite all the good Daniello has done, like destroying the state GOP for one.
Nancy has a real discussion about the race.
Dana highlights John Kowalko’s letter of support for McGlinchey.
Burris has a source who says that this election is a proxy war for Biden v. Daniello.
IN OTHER NEWS…
In other news, Governor Markell was interviewed on ESPN after the passage of the Sports Gambling bill.
Tyler Nixon coins a term: hysterical jackassery.
Kilroy comes face to face with a pit bull… er ah Lt. Governor Matt Denn… for the first time.
MJ is back at Lower Slower Delaware.
Mike Matthews discovers who pays Celia Cohen’s bills.
Dominique wishes her son a Happy Birthday. Very touching post.
THE SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS.
Finally, Kavips gives some very kind words of praise for Delaware Liberal and our attempts to profile the various school board candidates prior to the election last Tuesday. He calls it the best public service ever attempted.
But we were not alone. Mike Matthews profiled and endorsed Kim Williams and Eric Randolph for the Red Clay School Board. He also shines the light on former School Board President Bill Manning’s attempted involvement in the election, and the sleazy tactics of Kin and Eric’s opponents. After all is said and done, he has the winners and losers of the Red Clay election.

That Peach Pie thing is a fucking farce. Sure Southern NCCo used to be one vast peach orchard…in nineteen oh fucking nine!!
Since “the yellows” hit the peach crop (prior to WWI!!) there hasn’t been a peach grown around here. And who the hell eats peach pie? Nobody.
I think entenmann’s chocolate chip cookies should be the state desert. LEave an open box of entenmann’s chocolate chip cookies on a counter at work and see how long it last compared to a peach fucking pie.
Mike Matthew’s reporting is what this state has needed since its inception..
or since the News Journal sold its soul…..
A clear look at what goes on… mostly shenanigans… has made Mike a must read for everyone who pays Delaware taxes…
Mike has done more to change the Delaware “Play” than anyone so far. He does it simply by recording what “really” goes on.
I mean “really” goes on…
lol
I agree on that point Kavips. There is also a lot to not like about Mike, but here at Around the Horn, we focus on the good.
Too bad for Mike, but it really just may suck bad if he ever gets a FT job. Stay unemployed, bitch!
He should start accepting donations. Paypal buttons are easy to plug in, Mike!
