Discussion with a Republican
“Dad, so we going to Aruba this year?”
“I am not really crazy about Aruba. That Natalie Hollaway thing really turned me off.”
“It is pretty safe there, that wasn’t typical”
“I’m talking about the government. They just showed me how corrupt they are. I don’t really like that”
“But you are ok with our corrupt government?”
“What corruption?”
“uh, gee dad I don’t know that guy Cunningham is going to jail. YOu remember Jack Abramoff? How about the telecoms?
“what about them?”
“Uh, how about spying on us Americans, turning over our private information and now wanting immunity b/c they were complicit in breaking the law.”
“Well I’m ok with giving up some of my civil liberties if that means we catch a terrorist!”
“I guess you aren’t American then”
“Chop off all their damn heads”
“So you are ok if the terrorists win? Because they don’t want their people to be free. They don’t believe their people should have rights, they believe in telling their people what to do. So that is ok with you? that we become like them?”
silence…
sigh, the 25% you can’t change no matter how smart they are.
Don’t forget Ted Stevens and that shit they tied to pull with Ashcroft in hospital.
Oh and the more I read about this torture shit that madder I get. I didn’t realize until this week that the US gov’t actually prosecuted war criminals FOR waterboarding after WWII. (See United States of America vs. Hideji Nakamura, Yukio Asano, Seitara Hata and Takeo Kita.)
But 9/11 makes it OK. Talk about moral relativism.
Don’t leave out Murtha, Mollohan and “Cold Hard Cash” Jefferson, all of whom are still in office.
No one has a monopoly on corruption.
No one has a monopoly on corruption.
before you open your yap, maybe you should look up people in the current administration that are going to jail…or having sex with prostitues or soliciting in a bathroom, or flying with jack abramoff or taking bribes (insert anyone of 4 rebublicans) or drving drunk, smacking their old ladies around and using their get out of jail card
but yes you are right the dems are corrupt too
“drving drunk, smacking their old ladies around and using their get out of jail card”
I think you know where I stand on that.
I do I couldn’t resist
“flying with jack abramoff”
Lots of Dems on that list lest you forget.
“or drving drunk”
Insert any four Kennedy’s or immediate relatives here.
“Well I’m ok with giving up some of my civil liberties if that means we catch a terrorist!”
Those who give up their liberty for security deserve neither liberty nor security and will get neither.
Let’s be honest, if you read the laws like Patriot Acts I & II, and the new Home Grown Terrorism act, they have nothing to do with external and existential threats from Saudi Arabia or Islamic terrorism or even the rising superpower status of China, they have to do with American citizens. Read their text…and add to it all the executive orders and other plans and you will get the picture. They do not agree with the 9/11 report.
If you want liberty and freedom and democracy, ask for them to repeal these laws that undermine it, the only reason they are there is because there is money to be made in the terrorism industry. Do not believe me, Google it.
Chris, as usual, you are wrong. Abramoff was unusually partisan in those that he courted. Besides that, why would he court Dems? At the time they held no power.
Don’t try the lies here. You get called every time.
Ah, the children playing either for the blue or red team squabbling, spitting and kicking dirt on one another, arguing about which shirted team is the more civilized.
While under their shirts there’s the same human skin, hair and sweat.
The shirts from both teams get removed at night and the children go to sleep and dream the same dreams and undergo the same monsters in their nightmares. Both the next morning awaken, yawn, stretch, rise and go take a piss.
But all that is important about the OTHER later in the day is they wear wrong colored shirt.
“Chris, as usual, you are wrong. Abramoff was unusually partisan in those that he courted. …

Apparently the Washington Post lies too…

Just in case you didn’t click through…Harry Reid’s name is on that list….ever heard of him. I think he has some important role doing something…
you really are an idiot chris. he was partisan and it was widely known. good try though little boy. for every dem put 4 R’s on that list
hence the partisan geek was discussing.
“I agree with you. I really hate corruption, too. But you forgot all the corruption throughout Democrat administrations. Take Hillary Clinton’s donations from that Hsu guy. Why, there were donations from dishwashers who make minimum wage and it’s highly unlikely they gave Hillary the equivalent of a month’s salary.
And really, we can go back a long time talking about Democrat corruption. Harry Reid took money from Abramoff, for example, and there were many other Dems who did as well.
And let’s look at the Clinton administration. Scandal after scandal after scandal. Selling technology to the Chinese. Illegal campaign donations. Selling out the Lincoln bedroom. Those fundraising “coffees.” You see, son, when you grow up, you realize that when somebody starts complaining about ‘our corrupt government,’ they must be a partisan hack trying to make a pretty lame point.”
“I see what you mean, Dad.”
see sharon that is where you go wrong. This isn’t about who did it first. The government we have now is corrupt and the government we had then is corrupt.
No one party is innocent, but this current administration will go down in history that is for sure.
You fall into the typical “clinton did it” or the “Dems did it too” meme. I am not a clinton fan and didn’t vote for him and I don’t think I will vote for Hillary if it comes down to her or Rudy, I will vote for someone else and be proud I did.
I’m not exonerating the Dems so don’t try that pathetic grade school arguement with me or here for that matter.
It is so remedial to argue about who else did it. It doesn’t solve the problem.
I was merely pointing out to my dad the hypocrisy in his statement not about the GOP vs Dems.
go tell someone to stop using gas or something please 🙂
Excusing Republican corruption by referencing allegations of past corruption of the Democrats means that you are in fact pro-corruption.
By saying, “Hey, you did it too,” you mean to say “It is ok to do it.”
So Sharon is pro-corruption.
“So Sharon is pro-corruption.”
Or pointing out hypocrisy again. DV when called on the issue suddenly admits it existed in the Clinton era and he wasn’t for it then. But it was intellectually dishonest for him to omit it in the first place. Not surprising, but dishonest.
suddenly admits? nice try Chrissy…move along troll
I guess he missed the word “alleged.”
Not “alleged” but rather “allegations.”
The way to move: Corruption out, integrity in. But the measures for integrity should be based on policy and behavior in office. Government and politics have no business in your personal life. And admit it, intellectual dishonesty is the noram today so why should corruption be any different? If everyone is doing it, everyone will do it unless they grow a pair, stand up and forget being rich and think of the common good of our state and people.
If this were genuinely your position, you would have pointed out the hypocrisy of both Democrats and Republicans (as my “dialog” did). My point, the one you missed, of course, is that you constantly act as though Republicans are corrupt without pointing out that it is the system that corrupts. NOt surprising since you are, after all, a liberal.
By saying, “Hey, you did it too,” you mean to say “It is ok to do it.”
So Sharon is pro-corruption.
Um, no. by saying, “Hey, you did it, too,” I mean, “Quit complaining about the crap in other people’s houses until you clean up your own.”
sharon, I was pointing out the hypocrisy in my dad’s statement that he said ARUBA’s government was corrupt.
get off it for god’s sake.
I was comparing the current administration with current govt at Aruba.
why the fuck would I interject Clinton, when MY FATHER IS THE ONE TALKING ABOUT THE CURRENT SITUATION IN ARUBA.
good god, if you are married, your poor husband
