CQ Politics Picks Copeland or Kovach for GOP Open House Seat
I’m not sure where they get this, but in an article about easy Dem pickups in the house we find this…
(Castle) has never received top-flight Democratic opposition in any of his re-election campaigns. In the unlikely chance he seeks re-election, though, Castle would face Democrat John Carney, a former lieutenant governor who narrowly lost a primary for governor in 2008.
Should Castle eschew a re-election campaign, potential Republican candidates for his seat include former state Sen. Charlie Copeland, who was the losing Republican nominee for lieutenant governor in 2008, and state Rep. Thomas H. Kovach, who won a special election last December.
What? No Protack?
Kovach? Seriously?
I don’t know, Kovach may be a great guy but it is sure an indication of a shallow bench if you have to go to a guy that’s been an elected official less than a year. How many votes has Kovach gotten in his whole career, 2000?
Keep in mind, the job opening is for second-place finisher in the ’10 Congressional race. I actually think Kovach is more likely to act as sacrificial lamb than Copeland is.
According to the political rule book, Copeland’s career is kaput if he loses a second consecutive election.
I think that O’Donnell would be a perfect candidate, but given that Mr. Castle’s deadline has come and gone, I think she should be the senate candidate and Mr. Castle should be the house candidate.
Yeah, but isn’t Kovach up for reelection? Do you sacrifice that seat? Surely, this seat would revert to Democratic hands (perhaps it would either way). At least Kovach would have incumbency to help in the reelection for the State House seat.
It seems to me that the bench is very shallow and getting shallower.
“I think that O’Donnell would be a perfect candidate”
As sacrificial lamb, yes. As an actual congresswoman? You have to be kidding. She has never done ANYTHING in her life — her career makes Karen Weldin-Stewart’s look accomplished.
It’s statements like this one that show you aren’t capable of serious commentary.
Think of the baby zygotes she could save, Geezer!
but given that Mr. Castle’s deadline has come and gone, I think she should be the senate candidate and Mr. Castle should be the house candidate.
Christine should start pitching a fit that Castle blew off his deadline. That would be awesome.
Kovach is very impressive, but he’s not prepared to run against Carney yet. He’ll be a great statewide officeholder, in time.
There are two people in the GOP with the name recognition, Protack and Copeland.
Both have big hits against them.
Copeland is a rich DuPont guy whio got killed in 2008 and any other candidate would be rode out of town.
Protack despite the primaries has some substance but the GOP hacks want to control everything and would rather lose than have someone they did not pick.
Castle should drop out and get what ever GOP leadership is around to get Copeland for one seat and Protack for the other.
Kovach? Come on, he squeeked by and is a no name.
Thanks Mike!
“There are two people in the GOP with the name recognition, Protack and Copeland.”
Name recognition is not an asset when you poll with 2-1 negative name recognition, Mike. Tom Capano has tremendous name recognition. But when people recognize your name and the next thought that enters their head is “douchebag,” it doesn’t translate into votes.

I’m sorry but FSP wins the thread.
LOL! FSP nails it! Boy, that had to hurt.
Maybe Bonini can do it and find a way to end his woe-is-me Senate existence.
FSP has no clue and he has no poll and no brain.
Fighting the unfriendly skies today which makes FSP a non factor.
I guess he took a minute from his vast financial empire to say something stupid and uninformed.
Mike Protack
PS name recognition is important and you know it.
Fighting the unfriendly skies today which makes FSP a non factor.
Yet, you manage to blog?
Only you can say something where you “fight the friendly…”
“…makes FSP a non-factor”
Yet, you make a comment about him.
Are you a narcisisstic control freak or something? You insist your shizzit never stinks and you always have to make reference to your job, which is a symbolism of power.
“PS name recognition is important and you know it.”
Yeah, just as Pee Wee Herman!
“PS name recognition is important and you know it.”
You keep telling yourself whatever it is you need to hear to continue making a punchline of your public image, you cautionary tale.

Oh yeah? Did they finally let you into Clueville?
