Save this date – November 17. It’s the day that Sarah Palin’s memoir Going Rogue (clever title) is due to hit the shelves. She and her ghostwriter finished in only 4 months.
The 400-page book is the first for Palin, who has been an object of fascination since Republican Sen. John McCain chose her as his running mate during his 2008 presidential bid. The book will be called “Going Rogue: An American Life.”
A huge first printing of 1.5 million copies has been commissioned by Harper, an imprint of HarperCollins.

Is anything else on your mind?
My two young sons falling ill over the last few days with high fever and dry, scratchy coughs. At least the doctor said their condition was NOT symptomatic of any kind of flu…PHEW!
Mrs. Smitty is a part of the Middletown-local stage production of Evita, to be performed on Friday-Sunday on Oct 9-11 and again 16-18 at the Everett Theater. They lost their backing, so ticket sales are being heavily pushed through the performers and non-stage workers (such as directors, producers, etc.). I sent Geek an email with the flyer and info attached, hoping he can spread the word. The producer/director asked that you mention who referred you, which I provided to Geek. If he posts the info, then it will be there, if not, Geek and Pandora know how to reach me, you can go through them to get to me.
1.5 million copies in hardback… that’s setting the bar pretty high.
What is this, CrazyRight book day? Yeah, 1.5 million might be a bit optimistic, but I’m sure she’ll sell a lot. I’m assuming there will be plenty of pictures in the book. Ya know, this isn’t for those elites with their fancy 9th grade reading levels. This will be for REAL Americans.
On another note, my historical group had our picnic last weekend, and we were graced by the presence of Mr.’s Tim Sheldon (councilman for the group’s district) and Paul Clark. Man, those politicians love
free foodmeeting their constituents. Unfortunately, I didn’t know they’d be there, so I didn’t have any good questions ready. Well, that and I was hungry. But seriously, on the off chance they see this, I want to say “Thanks for coming” on behalf of FOBS.Now if someone could tell me that Michelle Bachmann has a pop-up book called “The Little Black Helicopter” coming out, then the triumvirate of the Legion of Loon (as well as my day) would be complete.
There is a Michelle Bachmann action figure, tho.
And the 1.5 mil print run for a conservative book isn’t that aggressive — they have multiple groups who buy these books in bulk and use them as lovely parting gifts for whatever the fund-raising scheme of the day is. Do note also that this book was moved up to a Christmas release — someone was thinking that this may be the wingnut gift of choice this year.
ok, FIRST of all that action figure looks more like a more like Michelle Obama, unless the lighting on the action figure’s skin color is just dark…. second. with Bachmannm, it is all about the eyes… Those crazy “true believer” eyes that look both terrified and lustful for power and attention. Michelle is like that psycho girl in school who would pretend to trip, or if someone bumped her in the hallway, she would fall down and cry.
Thank you, Cassandra. You just made my day! Not only Michelle My Belle, but Joe the Plumber, Rod Blagojevich, and Joe Wilson! I wonder if the Blago is one of those big heads where you can do his hair? Could they not pay enough to license Palin? All of those (except maybe Blago) fit a trend, but why the Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
dollaction figure? Target practice? But if they were going to do that, there’s a much more obvious choice.I obviously did not read well enough — they already had a Palin one. A. Price, I think you’re right. Maybe they had some left-over Beyonce dolls or something. And please, tell me more about her eyes.
Dear God help me, but I went to that company’s site. First, I think a.price is right and they just reused old Michelle Obama dolls they didn’t sell. Also, wow! Some of the Palin dolls are almost NSFW. (The school girl one is my personal fave.) If they made life-sized “usable” models I think they’d make a killing. Last point: the Joe the Plumber figure is holding a crowbar. I think someone (maybe Joe) is not quite sure what plumbers do.
That Bachmann figure looks more like Oprah Winfrey on a very bad hair day. It’s an odd bit of business that they don’t make clothes that better fit these action figures.
One of my other favorites is the big, buff Dick Cheney figure. The only place he’s looked like that is in Bill Kristol’s fantasies.
” they have multiple groups who buy these books in bulk ”
I have seen this claim from both the left and right. Does anyone have a credible publishing industry source that backs this up?
is it just a rumor that Palin’s book is a pop-up picture book?
(sorry–I couldn’t restrain myself)
Alaska was a pretty corrupt system until Palin stepped in. Her reforms took on entrenched politicians (inc. Republicans), a mafioso-style union boss, and Big Oil.
Wouldn’t it have been nice if Obama had been principled and brave enough to confront the corrupt Chicago Democratic Machine? Or shady political operators like Tony Rezko? Racist preachers? Instead of doing business with every last one of them?
IMO people could end up voting for the Gipper-in-Heels in droves- they’ll surely being looking for some such antidote to the Bolshevik con-artist who’s taking a wrecking-ball to this society now.
Small wonder then that far-left moonbats -along with Team Obama’s David Plouffe internet-control squad- are out to destroy her. The fact that she’s been highly successful in life while rejecting liberal feminism explains the extra dose of venom in the attacks-
Go get em ‘Cuda- you’re one tough lady… and there’s a lot of us behind you.

Yes, a lot of people who uncritically accept stories like that at face value. Those who have spent more time around politics know a vicious, unprincipled scam artist when they see one.
There is nothing in her career that vicious back-stabbing won’t explain. The mistake her targets made usually was taking her into confidence. You’ll notice she tried to turn on McCain, too, but she hadn’t been let into his circle.
Alaska, you’ll notice, is still the same corrupt system it always was. And always will be, because Exxon et al are the ones with the money.
She quit after two years on that job, and never showed any mastery of it. Which of the current problems confronting the country could she actually deal with? She can’t even speak a string of coherent sentences without using the crutches of conservative boilerplate, and mangles them even then.
Please, oh, please nominate her in 2012. Please. It will show exactly what you all have become.
RICO: The charge should actually be that most of the people who buy the books can’t read them.
That the purchase of these books is meant as a reward to the “author” was made clear when David Brooks disagreed with “conned-servatives” about something, and some responded by saying they would retaliate by not buying his next book.
Brooks, it should be noted, actually had a well-reviewed non-political, non-fiction bestseller some years back, “Bobos in Paradise.”
ruhbarb, thanks for the unsourced annecdote and silly speculation.
so, when confronted with inconvienent facts:
Conservative political writers out sell liberal writers
conservatives read more than liberals
The left responds with
they just buy the books, they don’t read them
the books must have lots of picture
maybe they are pop-up books
it’s the the VRWC buying the books.
it can’t possible be that intelligent principled people disagree with you and your Dear Leader.
Where exactly are you getting the “fact” that conservatives read more than liberals? I’d love to see the studies on that one.
Conservative books are bought in bulk by conservative book clubs. You can see bulk purchases on the NYT bestseller list by books that have a dagger by them (this denotes bulk purchases). Conservative books also tend to show up at re-sale and low cost stores selling for $1. That denotes over-printing.
it can’t possible be that intelligent principled people disagree with you and your Dear Leader.
Of course it’s possible. Your problem is that intelligent principled people aren’t writing these conservative screeds. Certainly not the ones that make the best-seller lists.
I would love to see some principled, intelligent criticism of the president from the right. Instead we get “death panels;” Obama = communist-Nazi-facist-socialist; open calls for assassination and secession; calls for “bloodless” coups, etc.
When the right gives us some principles to look at, we’ll look at them. Until then, don’t be surprised when we point and laugh.
Palin’s book shoots to No. 1
CNN) – Sarah Palin’s 432 page memoir isn’t set to be released for more than seven weeks, but the highly anticipated tell-all has already shot to No. 1 on Barnes and Nobles’ Web site, supplanting new releases from bestselling authors Dan Brown and Mitch Albom. The forthcoming book has also vaulted up Amazon.com’s bestseller list, currently holding the No. 3 spot just behind Glenn Beck’s “Arguing with Idiots: How to Stop Small Minds and Big Government.”
and your point?
The point, I think, is that wingnuts are remarkably good at enriching their failed leaders. But we are not to notice, I guess that this is a website’s pre-release sales.
But these conservatives are yet to notice that none of these books are in any danger of putting their authors on a shortlist for any literary prizes, either.
