100 Greatest Quotes from The Wire

Filed in National by on November 29, 2009

I loved this show and saw it almost entirely in DVD or via bittorrent. In fact, this show is how I even found out about bittorrent. In any event, this was a brilliantly written show, with alot of memorable and true characters — with an extra special bonus throughout the seasons if you knew anything at all about Baltimore politics or law enforcement. Anyway, someone has done the work to compile the best quotes, ever, from this amazing show:

  1. What a great show The Wire was. To paraphrase Yogi Berra, that show had ‘deep depth’.

Every facet of it. I’ve never seen a more realistic depiction of the interface between the government/cops/street in an urban city anywhere. And, yes, everything’s as screwed up in real life as it is in the show.

Great writing, mostly from former journalists and some of America’s best gritty fiction writers, including Richard Price (‘Clockers’ might well have provided the inspiration for the show), George Pelacanos, and Dennis Lehane, among others.

Incredibly realistic acting. This series is like ‘Homicide-Life On the Streets’ on steroids.

And the greatest opening theme song ever:

I know I’ll be coming back to rewatch every single episode as soon as time permits.

If you somehow missed it, get someone to buy you a boxed DVD set. You won’t be sorry.

Thanks for that wonderful video. I borrowed it and added a couple lines I thought were missing.
