Another “Family Values” Republican Fails To Practice What He Preaches
Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN), a champion of abstinence education and traditional family values, will resign effective Friday after an affair with a female staffer in his district office, he announced today.
He said in a statement that he “sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff.” And he blamed the atmosphere in Washington for forcing him to make the move:
“In the poisonous environment of Washington, D.C., any personal failing is seized upon, often twisted, for political gain. I am resigning rather than to put my family through that painful, drawn-out process.”
At this point, can we just assume if you’re a “Family Values” male Republican you’re either having an affair or are gay?
But, seriously, this guy is a piece of work. “In the poisonous environment of Washington, D.C., any personal failing is seized upon, often twisted, for political gain.” Remind me again… who turned “personal failings” into political gain? Which side of the aisle adopted the mantle of Family Values and never misses a chance to preach to, and condemn, everyone else?
Souder has also been a persistent critic of what he calls “homosexual marriage.” He cosponsored the “the DC Defense of Marriage Act [which] would simply state that in our nation’s capital, marriage means what marriage has always meant” and the “Marriage Protection Amendment [which] would amend the U.S. Constitution to ensure that marriage in the United States consists only of the union of a man and a woman.”
He might want to add to that last amendment. Marriage Protection Amendment [which] would amend the U.S. Constitution to ensure that marriage in the United States consists only of the union of a man and a woman… and a man’s mistress.
UPDATE: It just keeps getting better. His mistress interviewed him.
Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN) had an affair with a part-time staffer named Tracy Jackson, Fox is reporting. Jackson played the role of interviewer for a Souder Web video show on the issues of the day — including one on the value of abstinence.

‘part time staffer’? Sounds like a full time job to me 😉
LOL! He’s also a big “abstinence only” guy. Guess multiple partners after marriage is okay.
Gay marriage claims another hetero marriage scalp.
Wasn’t he also one of Clinton impeachment prosecutors? Waiting to Delusional David and the rest to weigh in on this.
Can’t we at least get a photo of the staffer so he can at least get some sympathy for “he couldn’t help himself”? I mean, how many people here would sleep with Donviti at the drop of a hat?
She’s married, and pretty good-looking, which raises the “What was she thinking?” question.
I’ll take the bait: Maybe they were horny and just really, really attracted to each other. I fondly recall a day when banging the help was just one of the perks of getting elected to Congress, and you didn’t get hauled into the court of public opinion unless you romped with your paramour in the Tidal Basin.
That was also before the Family Values crusade and the Clinton impeachment. There’s no going back.
Bet Christine O’Donnell is kicking herself today for missing out on this sugar daddy.
Tracy Jackson, do you hate yourself yet? Souders also a great proponent of the endless farce we call “The Drug War”.
Geezer, weren’t those the same old days where elected officials were able to keep their health concerns private?
if this were a Democrat, and Republicans were hounding him out of office, I would say: hold on, why does he have to resign for an affair.
The world’s largest data base on rating men, estimates that 22 percent of men cheat on their spouses compared to 14% of married woman…
Assuming they are not both cheating on each other at the same time, it would be safe to say that close to 34% of America’s couples then are having affairs during their lifetimes..
There roughly 60,000,000 couples which means that the number of American’s cheating (34%)… 20,400,000 couples or times 2… 40,800,000 million people… That’s a lot of voters…
So to hound someone out of office, for having an affair, is the equivalent to saying: you can’t be allowed to be happy, you can’t be allowed to be human, you can’t be allowed to find love, because your are in office..
If we hold politicians to these ridiculous standards, all we are going to have, is ridiculous politicians…
And after the last 8 years of Republican leadership, the very last thing we need in this country, is more ridiculous politicians.
We all need to tell the press to STFU… Personal is personal and does not affect this nation either for the better … or the worse… We need smart people… That’s bottom line… Stupid people run this nation into the ground. Smart people, raise it to it’s highest standard…
So if a person makes a stupid mistake, throw him out of office.. But not, for falling in love.. That, is just stupid.
We need smart people… That’s bottom line…Yea,kavips, smart people who practice what they fucking PREACH and supposedly BELIEVE in!!! He’s a HYPOCRITE of the FIRST DEGREE and that’s why he did the right thing and resigned.I actually watched his resignation.I like him better now for it.He DIDN’T drag his POOR WIFE up there and sounded truly sincere in his apologies to all hurt by his idiocy.I wish him well.Still,he,s a hypocrite and needs to pray on that aspect of his life and ask to be forgiven from our Lord and Savior,Jesus.
Skippertee — does that mean that when you get people in office of the ilk of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, smart but utterly lacking in principles they actually believe in (beyond their own personal quest for power), they can do whatever they damn well please without comment from you because at least they are not hypocritically failing to practice what they preach?
Democrats dont try to be the party or moral superiority. Republicans talk about how much more Christian, and how much more American, and how much more wholesome they are. Then you get larry craig having a toe-tapping good time in an airport bathroom.
Sure Clinton is a man-whore…. but i dont recall gim getting elected by talking about how bad it is to be a man-whore.
Skip, i am actually impressed by the way this ass stepped down too. I am also miffed that i have come to be impressed when these guys actually do the right thing. Craig didnt resign, Vitter STILL has a job after HIS prostitutes. Ensign has his job. Newt thinks he is gonna be president, Guliani is still looked up to. ….
Remember, Dems totally cut off Edwards. Spitzer resigned. Masa was a tickler and HE is gone.
A nony…. you. got. nothin.
Thanks for having my back,a.price.You said it all.
And A. Nony Moose, Go BURY your nuts in your squirrel friend, you fucking pervert!
Vitter shouldn’t have resigned nor should have Craig. Edwards was out of office. Masa had other issues that he appeared to fear. The former Democrat Governor of Maryland didn’t resign nor did the former Governor Edwards of LA. There are a lot of people on both sides who didn’t resign and a lot who did based upon personal and political calculations. The problem with Clinton was the legal issue same with Spitzer and Masa (sexual harassment complaints that he was too embarrassed to deal with). Why Souder did resigned? It seems out of a desire to remove himself from a situation to keep his family. Nothing wrong with that. It is a personal decision.
An affair has nothing to do with the job and in itself is not meaningful except as a means of gossip. If you fall down, get up. That is why people usually get reelected unless there is some underlying issue. Ensign may have issues if he chooses to go for reelection unless the complications are resolved. Vitter will cruise to victory.
The left is where all of the hypocrisy is on this issue. They claim no standards yet are the ones that act like Iranian religious police invading everyone’s homes.
12 Democrats under investigation while they’re leaders said this would be the most open and honest administration in history. The difference between the parties is if a republican fails to live up to the standard they set they resign. If a democrat fails they use it to gain pity and get votes.
Nancy and Harry promised us a transparent government and a honest one. I can’t see thru her two inch thick solid oak door and no one else can either. This current administration is so corrupt it’s obsene.
So based on the statements above we should all be hounding the current administration to get out of office.
The dems preach high moral standards too. The republicans are not the only ones out there saying one thing and doing another.
Obama preached in Chicago while attending a racist church. Obama said the war is wrong and then sent in more troops.
Kettle calling the pot black, Right????
The other thing I get from the posts above is it’s Ok to be a corrupt democrat with no morals, is that Right??
Dummy, an administration doesn’t investigate itself if it isn’t open and honest.
When Republicans screw up, it goes on quietly until they are caught by Democrats.
Has Ensign resigned? Vitter? Sanford?
