Karma Is A Bitch – Delaware GOP Edition
Karma is a bitch. Several weeks back the Delaware GOP filed a Federal Elections Commission complaint about Christine O’Donnell and her misuse of campaign funds. Now that she’s the GOP candidate and since the GOP completely caved to an unqualified candidate, they tried to quietly withdraw their petition. The FEC said “nuh-uh.”
Prior to getting their establishment asses handed them to them on the end of a mob-wielded pitchfork, the Delaware state GOP filed a FEC complaint against Christine O’Donnell for illegal campaign coordination with and excessive contributions from the Tea Party Express. Now that they’re saddled with her as the nominee, the FEC is telling them no-backsies, and that they can’t withdraw the complaint… the complaint against their own nominee.
Christine O’Donnell finally has an answer for CREW about their criminal complaint:
Now the O’Donnell’s lawyer is attacking the organization which made the charges against her — arguing that the group lacks credibility because George Soros has donated to CREW.
O’Donnell’s attorney Cleta Mitchell dismissed the charge as outlandish and described CREW as a “left-wing front group” funded by the liberal financier Soros.
“If Melanie Sloan wants to deny that, you tell Melanie Sloan to reveal her donors,” Mitchell told the Christian Science Monitor, referencing CREW’s executive director. “She is not a neutral arbiter of ethics.” Mitchell did not immediately return a call requesting comment.
In other words – GUILTY!
Why didn’t she just recycle the witchcraft excuse she gave to Hannity? “Some people dabble in drugs to rebel. That’s how I rebelled. But you know, who didn’t do some questionable things in high school, and who doesn’t regret the eighties to some extent?”
Where is Dave Burris on this issue? I’m curious to see what his opinion on this is.
Where is CRI on this?
Yes. They’re a left-wing group. But that doesn’t mean they’re wrong, which is what really matters.
So, given O’Donnell’s lawyer’s comments, they have no defense to the charges and his statement should be interpreted to mean “Christine O’Donnell pleads guilty to the charges. Where should she report to begin her sentence?”
They are actually a non-partisan group. They’ve gone after Rangel and Waters, for example.
Cleta Miller is a K Street lawyer, a rightwing former OK legislator, and supposedly tutored Jon Moseley on FEC law (at least according to what he wrote here on earlier threads). Of course, when your client is caught breaking the law, you ignore that and point a finger at the accuser. Typical rightwing, teabagging M.O.
Did anyone think that this would not be the defense? All questions about OD are attacks. All media is left wing, all detractors are unpatriotic Muslim-o-fascists sympathizers.
Dave Burris? No one cares he quit when the going got tough as he always does.
Back to $$$, O’Donnell is a thief pure and simple. The Delaware GOP has a bunch of fools who are called donors who give money to help the GOP and yet the Delaware GOP uses the money to attack other Republicans.
The FEC is not a big deal, the U S Attorney is.
This stuff is the most damaging to O’Donnell because she doesn’t have the I was young and dumb excuse for this.
Dave BUrris – he tweeted the has left the Republican party
is now an independant………
lol on the R’s not being able to retract their FCC complaint in DE
man – what a mess – and if O’Donnell had a defense her attorney would have come up with one – you only go after the credibility of the accuser when you have no defense…
i have a plan – the RNC is still paying the legal bills for Palin
wonder how long the TEa Party Express can pay the fees for a K street lawyer for O’Donnell??
HMMMMM – gonna be interesting – bet that attny costs A LOT
That FEC complaint about Christine is OLD NEWS. All of the politicos dip into the cookie jar when cash gets tight. And this poor woman had no cash flow….until recently.
The NEW NEWS is….. BO KNOWS FRANKFORD.
Yesterday Bo was doing the PHOTO OP with a few state cops in front of a closed down residence there, complete with prepared soundbites. What suprised me was John Atkins was right there with him, of course John’s a Dem these days. I guess it was too big of a drug den for the lone town ranger, officer Dudley to handle. As if the AG office is ever going to rid Frankford of the only thing it has ever had going for it, aside from Bailey’s Seafood. That’s ok Bo, you stay at in the AG office. Just stay out of the House & Senate races, and for land’s sake don’t get a bench appointment.
“who doesn’t regret the eighties to some extent?”
I thought the wingers loved the eighties because that’s when RAY-GUN was prez.

So, that’s the excuse – all politicians are crooks so I’m voting for one who’s already one. She must be very easy to bribe.
Also, officially she still doesn’t have a personal cash flow because I haven’t heard anything about her actually having a job. She’s not supposed to use those campaign funds to pay for her personal expenses but she’s just following the model set by her mentor, Sarah Palin.
Some right-wing publisher is cooking up a book deal for O’Donnell, bet on it. They probably have the ghost writers busy at work right now. Then they will sell the books in huge quantities to 527’s for free distribution to the loyal followers. The book gets a hit on the NYT best-sellers list. Christine rakes in the dollars. The corporatists get to tamper with our election. No laws or regulations are violated. They are all happy. And we’re sitting here saying WTF?
I think that you can pay yourself a W2 salary from your campaign funds.
Alan Keyes did the same thing when he ran for Senate against Mikulski in 1998 and when he ran for President.
You can pay yourself from campaign funds. But only to the amount of income you were deprived during running. So unemployed people cannot really don’t have an income do they.
And you have to report it and pay taxes on it.
I happened to catch some nonsense where she says she was doing pro-bono work. What helping OJ look for the real killer?
And I love how she is not doing any more national press. Well since she is not doing local press I guess that means she is going to hide.
What an incredible liar. I have lost IQ points just thinking about it, let alone watching the clip.
Thanks for that update Marc. We really do need someone who is more expert at these regulations to weigh in. I would say CREW is one of those experts.
Marc,
She not only said she did pro-bono work she said she spent 18 hours a day doing pro-bono work.
Isotope.
It is so out there it is incredible. She is not a lawyer or a doctor. So what pro-bono work could an unemployed marketing person do that is life or death?
I strongly suspect that the client for her supposed “pro bono” work will turn out to be a political campaign of some type… perhaps her own. In which case, all that work, instead of being paid for out of campaign funds, should have been listed as a political donation, in kind.
Because really, and apart from her politics, and before her current notoriety, would you take even FREE help from this girl? She’s quite a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
Dialogue Delaware just posted on O’Donnell’s answers to Sean Hannity. Note that the only person she’s addressed these to is Hannity.
Surely Christine could clear all this up by releasing her tax returns showing her work?
Also has anyone else noticed that she doesn’t have people back up her stories? Where is the HS boyfriend who dabbled in witchcraft? Where are the people she supposedly partied with at Fairleigh-Dickinson? Where is the person that she did pro-bono work for?
Perhaps she’s found a good strategy – tell a lie so blatant that there’s no one to contradict her.
Marc, I’d be surprised if “only to the amount of income you were deprived during running” was true. Campaign salaries and fees aren’t regulated as far as I know. Do you have a reference?
I will look for a reference. I actually researched this years ago, but I will look around. I doubt that it has changed with the campaign finance reform
It was also something about you can’t pay yourself more than the office you are seeking pays.
http://www.fec.gov/law/cfr/ej_citation_part113.shtml
this is all the fiance rules..
Wow, Google found it quick. Here’s what Mickey Kaus says (Marc is right):
So, is she only able to pay herself $5800 then?
This came up with the Sharpton presidential run, that is why I looked into it.
Unstable Isotope: “Where is the person that she did pro-bono work for?”
Yeah.. if I had someone doing PR for me, I’d kind of expect them to like… actually mention my name every once in a while. You know.. actually do some public relations. Particularly given that people have been asking about it.
Thanks, marc and U.I. You’re right.
PR work by its nature is PUBLIC relations – s where is her body of work for this Pro-bono client??
there would be reports, accounts published, letters drafted, people contacted – this is the nature of PR work
can she produce any evidence of this work??
I suppose just like the HS boyfriend, the University friend crowd and the PR probono client there is no evidence of any of it….
then agains – if she was working pro-bono she received no income – so how then could she pay herself out of campaign funds any income she was missing out of by running
this is turning into a circular firing squad, and guess what?? – she is both the target AND the executioner!!
To me (no lawyer or campaign finance expert) it looks like O’Donnell tried to get around the salary provision by declaring her house campaign HQ and by declaring her meals campaign events.
She tells a lie, then another lie to cover the first lie, and so on and so on. So when will this house of cards come crashing down on her?
As for the boyfriend, Satan is trying to arrange an appearance on Larry King Live.
UI,
Well she is trying that, and she can say whatever she wants. She was not a canidate between 2008 and March 2010. That is her problem. Yeah she can play whatever game she wants after March, but that is the point in contention and where she committed fraud.
The IRS I am sure is pulling her returns as we speak. Because she would have had to declare it as income. Because then the campaign is providing lodging.
It is going to be a mess for her, and it is the IRS who will spank her the most for it.
That’s another good point, Marc. According to Jonathan Moseley, she was a candidate in January 2009 because she sent an email to him that she was running, but she didn’t file FEC papers until 2010. What are the rules governing when you’re an “official” candidate? I assume it would be when you file your papers and form a committee.
I’m running for President in 2016, but keep it quiet until I file my paperwork with the FEC. In the meantime, I could use your campaign donations to get the ball rolling.
I am sure she was planning to run, becasue she figured out how to pay her bills. Running for the Senate.
But I don’t think they will split those hairs. She didn’t offically announce until March.
She could probably have a defense if she did active campaigning, but she didn’t, she was working day and night on the pro-bono thing.
I certainly hope so, Marc. I was overpaid 3 months Social security survivors benefits, many years ago… and the government took a KEEN interest in getting back my 400 bucks… an enormous sum to me, working for $100 a week.
It would really annoy me if, having thrown my entire state, and the democratic process thereof, into a tizzy in order to get her talking points on Fox she was given a pass on taxes, too.
Unlike many tea-party members, I actually PAY taxes. That’s what we do, so that the government functions. I’m not always wild about how they’re spent, but that’s why grown-ups have elections.
I bet they are working 18 hours a day working on amended tax returns.
“Unlike many tea-party members, I actually PAY taxes. That’s what we do, so that the government functions. I’m not always wild about how they’re spent, but that’s why grown-ups have elections.”
heragain, are you a member of the TeaParty? or are my reading comprehension skills just not well?
If she sold her home in 2008 to “her then-boyfriend and campaign attorney [Moseley?]” surely the Recorder of Deeds has a record of this. Anyone want to poke around?

Bought it in ’03 for $98.5k, sold it in ’08 for $135k
My sources tell me that her pro-bono client was Lauren Richardson.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14268.html
But it looks like Christine split before the case was resolved. Not sure how many hours a day it takes, but there it is.
Thanks for the info. But that was not does not cover the time period she is being investigated.
So there are nuggets of fact behind her lies.
I will see if she will do pro-bono work for me. I am totally disabled and live almost poverty.
That was really interesting geek, thanks for posting the link. O’Donnell is in a funny position now. She campaigned against Biden and Castle – why won’t you debate me? Now she’s the one ducking the media.
No, a. price. Tone of voice issue. “Unlike many TEA party members…” or “UNlike many teaparty members…”would have been more accurate.
Since so many of them seem to depend on medicare, etc, provided through their vile government. @@
Shouldn’t your header be reading “Karma is a Witch” ? Where’s that jason when you need him? Oh yea, probably under some house.
gotcha. I was ready to ask if i could study your habits as you would be a very rare anomaly indeed.
Seems we still have yet to find a Bagger with a brain.
Um, we have a witch, brainless bagger, heartless Repubs, and scared incumbents. Sounds like a story to me. Wonder when anyone catches on to the Wizard?
Pay no attention to those facts behind the curtain!
Christine doesn’t need a brain.. what she needs is a diploma!
See…we knew O’Donnell was lying about the witchcraft thing.
The evangelicals like John Ashcroft spoke about satanism. Palin on stage with an evangelical “warding off witches”. Christine dabbled in it? Me thinks we are dealing with witches and warlocks i.e. satanists. They hate muslims, elderly, poor, blacks, veterans, mexicans, gays, unemployed, so who do they expect will vote for them. The Bible thumpers are taking over the country wanting to change the Constitution to a “christian only state”, their brand of christianity. (the Old Testament). Wiccans have abandoned her because she lied, and Wizards don’t vote.
I imagine that O’Donnell was holding withdrawing the complaint over the GOP’s head. Thank god that they can’t withdraw it, because it is all true. Liars don’t deserve to be in office.
I understand you can pay yourself during a campaign but the complaint is she paid herself a salary during the time after the campaign ended.
UI – Nothing new under the sun. See Blood Libel and William of Norwich for a specific example.
What? The GOP has to spend money wisely? I use it to attack other republicans, it beats building the GOP. That would be work.
Protack sucks. Quick, someone up the risperidone dosage so the blog comments stop!
