Democrats To Hold Scary, Secret Meeting
Yesterday the New Castle County Democratic Party announced the time, date and details for the nominating convention. WDEL characterized the meeting as “closed door.” The meeting will be closed to the media. I’ll be attending but won’t be able to liveblog from the meeting.
Here are the details:
The Delaware Democratic Party has announced a special convention to hear from candidates interested in running for the soon-to-be vacant County Council President seat, and to select a candidate for nomination. This convention will be held on Monday, November 22nd at 7pm in the William Penn High School Auditorium, located at 713 E. Basin Road in New Castle. Registration will be open from 6pm to 7pm, and attendees should bring identification.
Only Democratic Committee members as of November 2nd, 2010 will be eligible to vote to select a candidate, though any registered Democrat from New Castle County and the City of Wilmington is welcome to attend the meeting. The meeting will be closed to the press.
Any Democrat wishing to be considered must present him or herself at the check in table by 6:30pm. All candidates will be able to address the crowd for five minutes each, and then will take questions from the audience for an additional 30 minutes.
With the election of County Executive Chris Coons to U.S. Senate, current County Council President Paul Clark will ascend to the County Executive’s office. The date for the special election has not yet been announced.
Meanwhile, in a completely secret process, former State Rep. Tom Kovach told people at last night’s DelTweet event that he was the Republican nominee for New Castle County Council President.

Ooohhh. Spooky secrets! I know how Rebicans can have a voice in who is the next NCC Pres. Register as Democrats.
I’m not entirely sure that Kovach is the nominee. I believe that he is “95% sure” that he is throwing his hat in the ring. I think there is still some process that he will have to go through to be the nominee.
I have heard Terry Spence which makes sense since he is not exactly fully employed right now and has the cross labor alliances which would make him competative against either Sheldon or Dunn.
Terry Spence would be a foolish move. His day has passed, and the GOP desperately needs some younger candidates. He’s a default choice, not a preferred one.
Has anyone heard that Ted Blunt is on Paul Clarks transition team? Perhaps we should call the team of three, Blunt, Merconi and Brainard, the “most ethically challenged” in Delaware.
“Ascend”? God Have Mercy. Who writes this tripe?
I’m pushing for a BAD candidate forum. Should know Mondayish.
Or The Three Stooges
I hate it when the date, time and locations of our secret meetings are announced on WDEL.

Everthing about politics on WDEL seems to be Republican slanted except Al Mascetti’s show. Alan Loudell even found some Bozo to interview on election eve that said the Polls between Coons and COG had tightened to single digits. So with anything you hear on WDEL considering politics you have to consider the source.
I agree, Loudell takes stabs at trying to operate outside of the prevailing rightwing media narrative, but they seem half hearted at best. He always returns to interviewing someone from The Washignton Moonie Times or the right wing agenda setters like Rassmussen as though they are an objective scientific polling outfit.
