Legislative Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show-Weds. Jan. 12, 2011
OK , kids, this has to be short as the plow has come through and I gotta go to work.
As chronicled in the News-Journal, yesterday’s session was largely ceremonial. Deepest sympathies go out to Sen. Cathy Cloutier, whose father passed away, and who was unable to make session. Deepest scorn goes out to Sen. Colin Bonini for trying to explain away the inexplicable. I have chosen to link these two items b/c Bonini, as you may recall, cited Cloutier’s absence from the Special Session where he voted for DeLuca as proof that his caucus was split. In fact, Sen. Cloutier was tending to her gravely-ill father. I love this quote from Bonini:
“As long as Delaware Liberal is saying bad things about me, then I’m good.”
I can well understand his bitterness towards DL since we exposed his no-show ways and his phony degree. Might’ve cost him the election. I’m glad Bonini’s good, cause we’re good as well. Thanks for the pub.
Let’s first see what’s on tabs in the Senate…hmmm. Tiny Tony DeLuca sure doesn’t let any grass grow under his jackboots. Today’s Senate agenda reads:
The State Senate has received notice of a Special Session called by the Governor for Executive Business, set for Tuesday afternoon, the fourteenth of December at two o’clock for the Judicial Nomination.
Really? First I’ve heard of it. Meet the new martinet, same as the old martinet.
The House was not so taken by surprise by the start of session. Committee work begins today, weather permitting. For those new to my ramblings, Wednesday is always committee day in the House, at least until the last couple of weeks of session. No substantive business is generally conducted in the House chamber on Wednesday. Senate committees generally meet on Wednesday as well, although they will often run some legislation in addition.
Here’s Wednesday’s House committee schedule. Click on each committee for their agenda. Today, each listed committee is scheduled to receive a briefing by the appropriate Cabinet Secretary. In addition, the House Education Committee will consider HB 1 (Schooley), which would fully adopt the needs-based system to all nineteen Delaware public school districts. I would generally discuss bills like this in more detail, but the car’s warmed up. Gotta go!

Good on Delaware Liberal for the work exposing Bonini’s do nothing/mean nothing rhetoric. He told Livengood that he voted for the non-activist conservative leader… [Activism is only a dirty word if you’re a liberal, right Bonini? Just ask SCOTUS Chief Roberts.]
I am planning on going down tomorrow to the
Senate Community County Affairs Committee Meeting
01/13/2011 01:00:00 PM; Agenda: DELDOT
Hall-Long, Chair; Bonini; Henry; Peterson; Venables
I have some FOIA’d emails from 2006 with Hall-Long discussing a certain Dagsboro property with Ruth Ann Minner’s staffers and DelDOT. It may be an unreported part of what Markell’s report today points to as the legislature’s role in the improper DelDOT realty office deals.
If I have time, I’ll pull it out of the e-file and print it.
