The answers you’ll get to this question will be as varied as if you’d asked “what’s the coolest car for a male / female?” Everyone has different preferences.
“Plus you can buy cheaper .38 rounds for plinking.”
.38 and 9mm are roughly the same price.
Guns are entirely a matter of personal preference (though I don’t know anyone who actually prefers a lorcin, raven, or Hi-Point) Certain guns are generally regarded as “junk” just like any other product.
My wife probably was influenced by watching the History Channel rather than soap operas. She hinted that the classic P-08 was ergonomically and aesthetically appealing. That was a Christmas present and she got me a Bushmaster with a a Picatinny rail. I had an early fondness for the M-1911 but like the last of John Moses Browning’s design, the HP-35. A laser makes it a bit more useful if ever has to be used and I hope the time never comes.
Semper paratus and de gustibus non est desputandem.
The only violent crime in my community involved a renegade State Trooper and there do not seem to be many of them.
“A laser makes it a bit more useful if ever has to be used and I hope the time never comes.”
Agreed. I’m thinking of picking up a set of CTC laser grips for my Sig. A laser should also aid in dry fire practice. I also need a light/light mount for my AR, but the slew of accessories & attachments is overwhelming for an AR newbie like myself.
For home defense the baseball bat is the best. It can be used in close combat, and doesn’t have the disadvantage of going through the drywall and killing your family. Next best: shotgun with low-brass seven shot. It will break legs, but won’t kill anyone.
There are a lot of opinions re the ‘best’ gun but the phrase: ‘De gustibus non est disputandem’ again comes to mind. My tastes run to autoloaders and I like the functional simplicity of military-style firearms. I do own one bolt-action rifle and a pump shotgun. Nothing engraved, nothing fancy. If you fancy your big-bore wheel-guns or pigeon-grade shotguns, I will express my admiration.
There are punks who chatter about their ‘9 MMs’ and ‘bustin caps’ but their existence on the street is a good reason for honest folks to be armed.
I have yet to shoot at any living creature but that is a matter of taste. I wish all deer hunters a bountiful harvest. The close calls on the road are getting more frequent and closer
The one that you shoot well and that fits your hand best. I’m partial to German Sig Sauer’s personally.
I prefer the smith and Westen 38 snub nose.
Down here in Sussex county they are advertising a cute little pink one for the ladies
Sig Sauer’s Suck.
S&W .357. Accurate, easy to shoot, packs a punch in case you’re dealing with an aggressive squirel.
Plus you can buy cheaper .38 rounds for plinking.
And for the purists, such as myself, anything semi-auto is for people who don’t know shit about guns.
Heckler & Koch MG4 for him and Valmet M76 for her. Screw the hand guns go for the better deterrents
Alright ! hand gun, Glock 26 for him and a Glock 19 for the mrs.

ahhhh, I see you had your dinner and bath big guy? back for the evening? all right….let’s “lock and load” heeehaawwww
but you drive a car to be cool Mikey, you own a gun for protection…no?
I own a car to get me from point A to point B. Why do you own one?
A bath? isn’t that a bit feminine?
Why, DTB? Why did you have to go and swat the wasp nest? Why?
Dom
He just got a new epinephrine injector and wanted to see how well it works when you get stung three or four thousand times….
Taser. It comes in pink now too.

I haven’t shot one, but I held one when I picked up my P228 from my FFL. That damn thing is tiny!
Anyone have a Star B or a pistol in 9mm Largo? How’s the recoil?
