Question of the Weekend
What is the ratio of people who listen to WDEL to people who listen to the sister station WSTW?
Follow up..
Would the ratio change for better or worse if WDEL dumped reality impaired host Rick Jensen?

Hmmm. I listen about 50/50 (when I’m not listening to the iPod). I am rarely listening when Jensen is on, except when I am taking a late lunch.
But on the occasions that I do listen, I am always disappointed that Jensen is on when I would rather be listening to weather forecasts for world cities or a cooking show…
I enjoy Mascitti and Loudell on WDEL but could do without Jensen. Also listen for traffic reports / occasionally Phillies games if I’m out and about while one is going on.
WSTW I think is mostly garbage. They play the occasional good song but it’s typically surrounded by so much useless fluff that I just can’t stand it. If I forget to bring my iPod in the car with me and am in the mood for music I will generally alternate amongst 104.5 (don’t remember the call letters), WMMR, WYSP, and WMGK depending upon the given song that’s on.
The Arbitron ratings will be out this week. I understand their ratings have been going down for about one year. WILM on the same time as Mascitti seems to have more callers. Trying calling some time and see how long it takes, its usually worth the wait. WILM never had a one call a week for their shows, and that Clear Channel station’s numbers in the morning have bee higher. However in the afternoon, with Rush and Hannity then Savage….I have no clue what those ratings are, no one I know listens.
Jenson sees himself as the “little Rush in a blue state”. With his anti democrat rants and his biased, ill informed opinions, it will be most interesting to see how his ratings shake out.
I am told that WDEL uses this “free gas” crap to get listeners. It is obvious to me the management knows the numbers are down and doing what they can to bring them up.
As soon I get the numbers will post.
The radio is terrible. Except for NPR and classic rock on 102.9, everything on it is absolutely unbearable. If it’s on the radio, i probably don’t listen to it.
Don’t listen to either WDEL or WSTW.
I’ll occasionally listen to Mascitti and normally enjoy his show. I use to listen to Jensen when Brian and Jerry co-hosted. Now I can’t even stand the sound of his voice. His info, besides being biased, is hopelessly wrong. Does the Republican party pay part of his salary? If not, they should.
I listen to WDEL in the morning when I’m out and about. I enjoy Al’s show. Once Loudell finishes the mid-day news I switch over to my CD player or NPR, there is nothing else on radio I want to hear.
When I worked in the First State, I’d sometimes listen to Rush Limbaugh on WDEL, but didn’t really get much of a chance. I didn’t even know that they had a “sister” station.
I’m well out of WDEL’s range now.
fyi:
new radio statio plays 90’s alternative and current stuff 104.5. Sort of like y100 used to be
Terrestrial radio blows, Sirius channel 17 Jam ON. That and Delaware Liberal is all you need to get you through the day.
Thanks, CJO.
I’ll second CJO’s sirius selection. I have pretty much given up on terrestrial radio, with the exception of NPR and with the note that I live and work downstate. I’d like to hear Al M., but work when he is on-air.
CJO, I agree on Jam-on, but note as well The Dead station, Sirius Disorder, the Spectrum, Sirius Left, and the two NPR satellite stations.
Jason: For your next QoD, how about: What are the last five books you’ve read?
I can’t remember the last time I listened to WSTW for more than the time it takes me to flip it to MMR. I also like MGK and 104.5, which I believe is WRFF. Still miss Y100 and DRE.
On the AM dial, I like Mascitti’s show, and Jensen was much more tolerable when he had an opposing voice on with him. I think both shows are better when they are discussing local issues.
Most times, it’s 950 ESPN radio with Jodi Mac or Mike Missanelli.
I got an idea for question of the day. Compare and contrast the following:

At least SOMEONE in this state made an attempt to put his money where his mouth is! In the battle of the extreme long shots, I just made my choice – the same one the PDD made.
Haven’t listened to the shit FM station since the introduction of the Tookie-Tookie bird.
Fucking morons.
Listen to WDEL for the Phils.
It’s my Ipod or NPR….sometimes 88.5(?), the UPenn station.
I actually enjoy Jensen. With Dave Burris gone, he is the only one in this state representing the opinions of other side. I think we do our best work when we have someone against whom we can defend our opinions….
Therefore, I think he actually does the left some good by breaking the philosophies and theory’s we sometimes come up with which are fragile.
I like to bounce my ideas off him first in order to make sure my views are grounded…..
How many times have you heard a caller start into a rant, only to come up short on a simple question? Through the silence you can imagine him thinking, “gee, I never thought of that….”
Some among you may call Jensen a “moron” or a” tool”, but when you call in and fail to make your case, those listening are thinking the same of you……
Secondly, WDEL has done a lot to back up bloggers across thie state. WGMD comes in second. If we bloggers have any credibility whatsoever, it is due in part to WDEL’s commenting on our works…..
What Another Mike said :-).

Rick has the Sean Hannity strategy of changing the subject down pretty good. I’ll give him props for that, although it is more of a rhetorical trick that it is about having a real argument.
