   Actually, The old Academy Building was always one of my favorites, so I finally get to be first.

   Black Friday got its name because its supposed to be the one day of the year that a businesses ledger will only have black ink and no red ink. i.e. turned a profit

   The term “Black Friday” originated in Philly –and had nothing to do with the profit margin of retailers.

   Black Friday originally referred to the traffic problems attendant to the Army-Navy Game in Philly. It is definitely a Philly coinage. I first heard the term when I moved to the Philly area in the early 1980s.

   Also, any retailer who’s not showing a profit by Thanksgiving is already on the way to joining Korvettes, Monkey Wards, and Ames with an opening on Memory Lane.
