Unopposed, Gov Markell Sends Out First Campaign Fundraising Email
Governor Markell is still unopposed right?
Dear Jason330,
Delawareans do not give up, particularly when it comes to fighting to get people working now and creating the strongest possible public schools to ensure our state’s future. We stay focused, and we keep fighting, to move forward together, sometimes against profoundly difficult odds.Because of your support in the past, I have had the honor of helping to lead that fight the last few years – to give new hope and new light at shuttered manufacturing facilities, to help small businesses through our LIFT program, and to be responsible stewards of public resources.
Because Delaware comes together, with the help of both our state’s educators and our state’s employers we were able to win the federal Race to the Top competition to help strengthen our public schools and help better prepare our state’s students to succeed in work and school.
Those of us that call Delaware home are seeing some of these results first-hand, but other states are taking notice as well.
In other places, thousands of teachers have risked layoffs the last two years. Here in Delaware, our state budget has added 100 new public school positions each of the last two years. In some other places, they tackle their financial challenges by attacking and belittling their public servants. In Delaware, we work together even when – or especially when – it’s difficult. We know that our state employees are critical to keeping our state moving, and we honor our teachers, our first responders, the people who take care of those sick, and in need.
In some other states, and even our national government – financial stability gets questioned because people do not pull together. In Delaware, despite having to overcome the largest budget shortfalls in state history, our budgets get balanced and our AAA bond rating was reaffirmed yet again.
We are by no means done, and can by no means rest. The challenges before us remain significant, and our commitment to meeting them must remain as steadfast. Your support has been so critical in the past, and will be again. With your support, we can continue to pull people together to help push our state forward. But in the end, so much of this is about you. Your contribution of $200, $100, $50, or $25 will make a strong statement today that while our state has had its share of challenges, we are stronger when we tackled them together.
I hope that by focusing on putting more people to work, on continuing to improve our schools, on caring for the most vulnerable in our state; by making government more transparent and accountable, by making equality under the law more real for more people; by doing all of that, we have proven ourselves worthy of the confidence you have placed in us and have earned your support to keep fighting forward.
Sincerely,
I got it too. But I got a personal call from Matt Denn asking for my support and shekels (which I gladly gave him).
Isn’t Denn also unopposed at this point?
Yes.
At the risk of sounding like an idiot (insert way too easy joke here), why do they need to raise funds if they’re running unopposed?
Because eventually the GOP will find some vagabond to run and they will give him a half a mil at least.
If the GOP truly doesn’t find anybody to run, then I wonder about the party’s future ballot access.
