Newt Takes The Lead In Florida
I am gobsmacked.
Poll 01/22/2012 – Florida Presidential 2012 (R)
Gingrich: 34.4%
Romney: 25.6%
Paul: 13.1%
Santorum: 10.7%
Are Floridians really going to go for Newt? It boggles the mind, especially when you look at this.

I think somehow, somewhere, they KNOW Obama is going to be re-elected. If you were of the opposition and knew you werent going to win, would you nominate the spineless weasel or the dirty fighter?
If this is pro-wrestling and they know the champ is going to win, would you wanna see a fair fight in which one contender is far infirior and wont really try…or… we’ll say Dr Destruction…. run out with a chair and beat the Champ up a it before ultimately losing by being thrown off the top of the Octocage of doom?
SB is right. Newt is a manifestation and extension of the GOP’s scorched earth policy regarding Obama. If they nominate Newt, which looks likely, the GOP has come to a point beyond politics. The Republicans are saying that they are at war with this President and at war with the notion that we should continue to be a representative democracy.
SB nails it. They adhere to a dying philosophy. They don’t know it yet, because most of them don’t understand the economic policies they endorse, but it was over the moment Alan Greenspan told the truth about his failure to understand the nature of markets. Conservatism in America at that moment became a zombie, still walking, still wreaking havoc, still mortally dangerous, but no longer functioning as a thinking organism. All they have left is their lizard-brain hatred of hippies, commies, fags, dark-skinned races and pointy-headed intellectuals, so they like anyone who puts his lizard brain — your typical egghead elite would call it an “id” — on full-throated display.

So let me ask about this poll — doesn’t Florida have early voting that has been open already? If so, I’d be curious as to how polls in the field now account for that.
People really don’t like Newtie and they didn’t like him when he left the House in disgrace. I’d be willing to bet that Newtie is a neo-confederate phenomenon right about now. But then, the GOP is having a serious Civil War with itself (one I wish the MSM would cover better — seriously, gang, this is what disarray looks like) and they may be ripe for being thoroughly O’Donnelled here.
This reminds me exactly like the O’Donnell/Castle race. I still think Mitt ends up with the nomination – I just can’t see the GOP establishment letting this continue. That said, if Newt gets the nomination then the GOP establishment is dead.
And if Mitt ends up with the nomination he’ll be like the Black Knight at the end of the scene in Monty Python and The Holy Grail.
In any case…Newtie ahead is terrific news for our POTUS.
I still think Rmoney ends up with the nomination too. But I also think it will be tougher for him to do the traditional turn to the middle. Or at least there ought to be plenty of this teajadi foolishness to hang around his neck.
I’m praying that “O’Donnelled” becomes the term that everyone uses to describe what Newt is doing to Mitt.
The Atlantic had a great article yesterday explaining S.C. and I don’t doubt he has the same machine in FLA.
I’d rather see Obama run against Romney. Romney being the poster child for vulture capitalism, would basically force Obama to run as an economic progressive. Can you imagine the whiny sound of Mitt “15%” Rmoney complaining about Obama planning to raise taxes on the rich?
(Assuming Obama actually is planning to raise taxes on the rich. It would kind of ruin the game if Obama agrees with Mitt’s tax plan. )
Romney would run a conventional campaign, but Gingrich is unpredictable and unprincipled, and is a more dangerous opponent. Plus Newt has some real talent on his team, as seen in the “When Mitt Romney Came To Town” video. Videos like that full of truthy numbers bashing Obama could be devastating.
Additionally, Newt’s copious baggage has been pre-disasterized.
FWIW – Traders at Iowa Electronic Markets are still bullish on Romney.

Puck,
I am undecided on who would be better for Obama to face. With Gingrich I am reminded of the phrase “be careful what you wish for.” Democrats thought it would be easy to beat Reagan and W too, and look want happened.
I’m leaning toward rooting for Rmoney. He’s just so god-awful.
An Open Letter to the Former Speaker of the House
I should point out that InsiderAdvantage is run by a former Gingrich staffer. Also, be wary of pollsters who publish numbers with decimal places – when the Margin of Error (MOE) is usually about 4-5%, tenths are meaningless and convey a false sense of accuracy.

I don’t who you are, that there is funny.
Damn. I missed my edit:
I’m leaning toward rooting for Santorum. He’s got just an awful god.
Say goodbye to the “Foodstamp President”.
good. maybe all the people who are on food stamps will starve and we can GET THIS COUNTRY GOIN AGAIN!!!!!
…and what? Hello to the “Footstomp” President? Keep dreaming.
It’s really kinda sad how Republicans keep trying to come up with a clever name to link to Obama.
Now, liberals came up Rmoney… and that is clever and funny.
But how do you pronounce Rmoney?
I pronounce it R-Money.
It’s Willard Romney’s Wu Tang name.
@walt Say goodbye to the “Foodstamp President”.
Is that because Newt me three times can’t get away with that misnomer in FLA? Lotsa R’s on the dole down there, fella, and iffn you take away their EBT, they’re be going all santorum on YOUR rmoney.
If it’s Newt, Obama not only wins by a margin that resembles a mandate but the Dems recapture the House and pick up a seat or two in the Senate! Go Newt!
