Atlantic Scores Internal Clinton Campaign Emails

By Anne E. Kornblut

Just when you thought everyone had moved on… former advisers to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton are in a tizzy over an upcoming piece in the Atlantic Monthly that chronicles the inner workings of the now-defunct campaign. Of particular concern are nearly 200 internal memos that the author, Josh Green, obtained — 130 or so of which he plans to scan in and post online. When the piece is published sometime next week, readers will be able to scroll through the memos, from senior strategists such as Mark Penn, Harold Ickes and Geoff Garin, and see what exactly was going on inside the infamously fractured Clinton organization. That has some former team members in a panic. And we thought the Abramoff e-mails were fun….

Well, that was my first reaction too. I hope some of their dirty tactics are spelled out so that I don’t have to keep trying to CONVINCE people of the obvious (race-baiting, knee-capping, incompetence, Fl-And-MI hypocrisy, lying through their teeth and so on …)

That said, I also am concerned about their commentary on Obama which will obviously not be kind and will be used by the Republicans.

But if I have to exchange an embarassment for my guy against the complete ruination of the some of the Clinton myths, I will.

In all likelihood, this is hype and it will all be very interesting but hardly anything groundbreaking or new.

I expect that the imminent release of these emails may also account for Mr. Bill’s crazy behavior this week.

  3. benjamin says:

You know, Cass, it is funny you say that but I thought the same thing.

I didn’t understand why the Clinton/Obama feud thing went back in the headlines this week. But now it makes sense. They were pressuring him publicly (via the media) now to ensure they will be featured at the convention before those embarassing emails show up to make it even more complicated

  4. cassandra_m says:

Including HRC as a major speaker at the convention was a given, as was some prominent role for Mr. Bill. As much as he acted the ass during the primary, Bill Clinton is still the oldhead in the room you can’t ignore. And, as much as Obama needs Mr. Bill to be out on the stump for him, Mr. Bill needs a platform to rehabilitate his image and he’ll make good use of this one — unless, of course, the man has truly lost his mind.

  5. benjamin says:

That was my judgement until I saw the Nightline interview where he ONCE again ragged on people “calling him racist” which noone did but whatever.
I am afraid the man has been overwhelmed by his bitterness.
    And HIllary’s spot was a given. Bill’s wasn’t.

  6. cassandra_m says:

Bill’s unpopularity is not as widespread as hanging on the internet might indicate. He is still (in very many memories) the last successful President we had. There was never any question that he would speak (and this reminds me of the speculation swirling about Bill’s participation in the 2000 convention when Gore was deliberately trying to pretend Bill did not exist), the only question was whether Bill would speak in prime time.

  7. Brian says:

Everytime Bill speaks I feel a quaking feeling in my legs that would make Chris Matthews proud….ummm….just kidding….I bet Ellen feels it in real life….

  8. snark says:

    so whats the speaking order?

    Bill Clinton
    John Edwards
    Gary Hart
    Jesse Jackson
    Gary Studs

  9. Dana says:

    Uhhh, wouldn’t this be illegal?

Delaware readers are probably familiar with the case of Larry Mendke, who snooped through former colleague Alycia Lane’s e-mails (they were the co-anchors on KYT-TV), and Mr Mendke is being charged with federal offenses for unauthorized access of Miss Lane’s e-mail account.

  10. cassandra_m says:

I think that there is a difference between someone who owns these emails leaking them to a reporter vs. a overpaid creep actually stealing your password and snooping through your email.

  11. Dana says:

The “person” who owns internal campaign e-mails would be the Hillary Clinton for President campaign, a legal corporation.
