Temko Sponsors Citizens United Resolution in Final Newark Council Meeting
Newark City Councilperson Ezra Temko, in his final city council meeting, is introducing a resolution for the City of Newark to oppose the Citizens United decision. You can read the resolution here. It notes that “artificial entities (including corporations) established by the government are subject to government regulation.”
If you are in support, please attend the city council meeting on Monday, March 26th at 7pm and speak in support, and/or write to your council person and the mayor and express your strong support. You can obtain contact information at the City of Newark website.
Thank god it is his last meeting, I thought he would never leave.
He should have been focusing on the people in his district all these years instead of putting his face where it doesn’t belong. How about doing something about the excessive electric and water rates the City charges?
This liberal fool would be better off attacking the City of Newark for ripping off its own citizens by running gangster government agencies like the water and electric departments who charge above market rates for the service they provide so they can pay for goofy programs.
Don’t forget the glitter for those who will boo you bunch of weirdos like Biden was booooed this weekend in Pittsburgh.
Corbett was booed in Pittsburgh too. And I edited your comment to eliminate the “Libtard” slur. Use it again and you will be moderated.
This “Biden Booed” story is like a peice of broken deck furniture that winguts from the shipwrecked GOP are trying to cling to for dear life.
I see the headline comes from this Real Clear Politics story, “Biden Gets Booed At St. Patrick’s Day Parade In Pittsburgh: NBC in Pittsburgh reports on VP Joe Biden’s cold reception during the parade (March 17, 2012).”
Where Fox News picked it up. Naturally the linked to NBC affiliate story does not support the headline – but a wingnut meme is born.
Please, enlighten me to the list of politically correct and appropriate slurs.
teabag, teabagger, teajadi, republican, white, rush, beckian, tidewater, LOLmen, ‘merkan, southern, tom carper.
Tidewater, the word “retarded” or “retard” is not acceptable. Therefore, any derivation is not acceptable. It does not shock me that you don’t know this, since conservatives like yourself disdain society and probably take pleasure in insulting the mentally challenged, but if you want to comment here, you will learn or you will be gone.
How many mentally challenged people can read this blog?
Let’s error to be tolerated, said Thomas Jefferson, “so long as reason is left free to combat it.”
And if I’m so lucky to be permitted by the word police to comment here you will learn not to fear freedom of expression, but to embrace it for humanity you tyrannical twit.
Plenty of conservatives read this blog, but we’ll leave you to count them up so you’ll have the answer to your question.
Back on topic or be gone.
Burn.
it’s like watching a cat pretend not to know why it has to stay in the play room when it can clearly see it’s own poo all over the floor.
aww. you took down his post, not my immature response makes even LESS sense.

I disagree w/ tidewater’s political views, but I have to call bullshit on the “retarded” is an unacceptable word nonsense.
Please take the time to look up “idiot”, “imbecile” and “moron” in your favorite dictionary. Hint: these words all refer to varying degrees of mental retardation. They are also commonly accepted speech, even in polite society. Why is the word “retarded” considered offensive when other words w/ the same meaning aren’t considered offensive?
This is Delaware Liberal, right? Try actually behaving like a liberal and not being the thought/speech police.
Tidewater,
The socialist speech-Gestapo here at Delaware Libtard practice the most unctously hypocritical version of selective outrage and selective editing I’ve ever seen on a blog. Many of their own spew vile words far in excess of the formerly technical term known as ‘retarded’. Though, being that these people aren’t true liberals, but rather, socialist/quasi-Marxists with huge chips on their puny little shoulders, don’t be surprised to learn that they think it to be ok –like their Fairness Doctrine fellow travelers in Congress (Kerry, Pelosi, Reid et al)– to regulate free speech for some, but not for all.
ya know, usually im opposed to banning conservative idiots for saying hateful things. i think the best way to fight these cavemen is to make sure the world can know what they think and how they talk….. however, QP DID just say “libtard”… so im gonna go all tattle-tale and point out that yesterday someone was warned that “libtard” was an oustable offense.
later, douche
Im with Ben- again….
stuck like glue…sorry Ben 😉
Dear Tidewater,
Private utility companies earn a profit. They do not deliver utility services for cost-of-service. Similarly, public utilities also have a margin above cost-of-service. The size of this margin is in fact voted on in Newark as part of our financial policy which was decided upon in public session. This margin helps fund city services and programs. This also helps include tax-exempt entities contribute towards city services and programs. Our rates are comparable to public and private rates in the area. Furthermore, while you call our programs goofy, I can tell you that based both on a resident survey the city conducts and based on my interactions with residents, Newark residents overwhelmingly appreciate and want continued services at the levels they are receiving.
Sincerely,
Ezra
While I expect congenitally hateful people like Tidewater and Que Pasa to find the use of the R-word irresistible to their febrile and maniacal minds, I must confess that I find anon40’s defense of the use of the R-word bewildering because it is astonishingly ludicrous. What will he defend next using this logic? That the use of both versions of the N-word should be permitted on this blog because AT ONE TIME it merely designated a race of people and we should, therefore, disregard the fact that NOW the use of the N-word (both versions) is regarded as racist? Yes, dictionaries can tell us about word meanings and origins, but not even the writers of dictionaries will claim that dictionaries are an infallible guide to how words are USED. And in the case of the R-word, we need only consult the pathologically driven usages of people like Tidewater and Que Pasa.
Just an update, Newark City Council passed the resolution 5-1. Councilman Tuttle was not at the meeting and Mayor Funk voted against.
