Will the Obama Campaign Put Arizona into Play?

Filed in National by on April 16, 2012

Remember in 2008 when the Obama campaign decided to go after Virginia and North Carolina and pundits shook there heads? Well, the Obama campaign is giving serious thought about putting Arizona into play this election cycle.

It is not hard to understand why the Obama campaign, which has a history of challenging established political wisdom, might be tempted to throw some resources here.

College students in Arizona are legally entitled to residency, and thus are able to vote, after living here for 30 days. The Latino population has nearly doubled over the past 10 years — it now makes up 30 percent of the overall population, and about 19 percent of the voting age population — though Democrats have long been frustrated over their lack of success at registering Latino voters and getting them to the polls. The announcement by Richard Carmona, a former United States surgeon general, who is Latino, that he would run as a Democrat for an open Senate seat here has stirred hopes that his presence could pump up Latino participation this fall.

Again…the DC “strategists” don’t get the 50 state strategy because they money by trying to make the “x’s” and “o’s” sound too dense for an ordinary person to fathom.

Obama should be trying to win in every state.

I’m sure he’s trying to “win” every state. However, in the days of the SuperPACs, how much money he is going to spend in each state is another matter.

  3. Jason330 says:

That’s inside baseball thinking. I’m talking about winning through a broad based populist message that makes TV advertising superfluous.

    …you may say I’m a dreamer…
But I’m not the only one…
I hope someday, you’ll join us,
and Democrats will run the table…

Please don’t promise to strip to your skivvies and run around Dover. Please don’t!

It is now 2012 and even though I’m a dreamer, I’m a far too jaded dreamer to do that again.
