  1. Joe Cass says:

In August of 1881, Peter J. McGuire brought thirty-six carpenters from eleven cities for a meeting in Chicago to form a national Union. The guild system offered not much more to these men than an opportunity to learn a trade. 14 hours,7 days a week gave little to no security for their families. The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners was born, and the struggle continues today.
All trades have endured their own suffering before and after organizing. For 200 years craftmen have battled the same opposing force: the unscrupulous. The names and faces have changed (some) but for every advance we make, powerful corporations and open shop contractors stand ready to quickly undermine our progress. They better pack a lunch.
Today organized trade is the most trained and safest workforce in America. As we provide for our families we look after yours as we build schools , bridges, offices and recreational facilities. Flip a switch, open a faucet, set a thermometer or use a door. You expect it to work right, first time, everytime. That’s us, achieving our goals by ensuring you acheive yours.
