Since DelawareLiberal offers you up all this wonderful snarky goodness for FREE day in and day out, take the $50.00 (or $100) you know you would give DL if we asked, and help out Delaware’s community supported public radio station.

Do it, and mention DelawareLiberal in the notes section.

Well, I find this site to have value. I could be talked into some measure of financial support for it.

But I can’t help but wonder that if “Delaware’s community supported public radio station” receives community support, why isn’t there evidence of it? Sure, there are letters to the editor, pleas to donate, etc. All very appropriate when people have to be convinced that something has value. But if it has value, then such pleas would be unnecessary because people would be buying the product.

I know I approach things from more of a value proposition but your example of DL is a case in point. DL adds value. You provide a product that people, if it became necessary, would probably buy. Fortunately, DL obtains some adverstising revenue which helps to subsidize its operation. If that model works, why can’t public radio employ that model? I guess that’s the part I’ve never been able to comprehend. The public may not like ads, but we recognize they are cost of not having to directly contribute.

I understand the concept of public radio, but change is the only constant in this universe. Perhaps it is time for change for public radio.

Done. I have always supported WHYY and WXPN and don’t ever listen to local radio (WILM once in a great while). Glad to support a Delaware based station.

How nice of DL to direct support to a fellow news source. I in turn have now bookmarked DL.

    peace

  4. Thanks DL for asking your readers to donate to WDDE 91.1 FM, Delaware’s source for NPR news. Regarding Dave’s comments about subsidizing our operations with advertising… as the Director of Corporate support for WDDE, I’ll kindly accept any referrals you may have.

I like them an awful lot, but someone should really hand the out-of-state on-air talent a Delaware pronunciation guide. It sometimes gets painful to listen to the temperature roundups. The technical flubs, dead air, etc., have been steadily decreasing. Wish them the best of luck, and can’t wait for Liane Hansen’s promised contributions.
