PDD-DL Vote Tracker for April 30, 2013
Not to steal any thunder from El Somnanbulo, but tomorrow is a big day for legislation in both the House and Senate. In the Senate, the Senate Executive Committee will consider the Marriage Equality Bill, HB 75. In the House, the Administration Committee will consider HB51, the large capacity magazine ban. To keep up to date on all legislation that is of priority to liberals and progressives, DL has partnered with the Progressive Democrats for Delaware (PDD) to compile this Vote Tracker. Now, this chart does not follow all the legislation that has been filed. We don’t report on perfunctory bills like the ones about the charter of Georgetown or ticket scalping. Nor do we follow the progress of judicial nominations, executive nominations, or Concurrent or Joint Resolutions unless they are a matter of controversy. So the legislation that is listed is a matter of concern and priority for those of us on the liberal / progressive side of the aisle.
The legislator’s names which are colored blue are Democrats. If they are colored red, they are Republicans. The first chart focuses on House Bills, and the second chart focuses on Senate Bills. If you want to download this Vote Tracker chart, at the very bottom you will see a black bar with a Microsoft Excel logo on the right. Click on it and you will be able to download the chart into the Excel format.
What does PDD do when the synopsis is arbitrary and capricious?
I suppose you are talking about Sokola’s SB 51, which sounds good until you dig into the details.
John, the listing of legislation here DOES NOT necessarily mean that PDD wants it to pass. Sometimes we are just monitoring legislation we want defeated. A good example of that is HB5, HB6 and HB7. Sometimes it takes some time and thought before the PDD takes a stand on a piece of legislation. So if a piece of legislation’s synopsis sounds good, or really does not tell you much, we dig into the details, talk to our friends in the General Assembly to get their take, you know, do the due dilligence.
Does HB 105 also required a 2/3rds majority like HB 20?
Thank you to both you, Delaware Dem, and to el Somnanbulo for the service your blog performs for all Delawareans.
On our State Government, Joan Deaver just today posted the following link which discusses our lack of transparency and accountability:
“According to the State Integrity Investigation, a collaborative project by the Center for Public Integrity, Global Integrity and Public Radio international, Delaware came in 22nd out of 50 states in terms of transparency and accountability in state government. Ineffective reform efforts, cozy relationships between politicians and business elites and a lack of openness helped earn Delaware a C- grade and a numerical score of 70.”

Not too impressive! We have more work to do on this issue.
