It would be pathetic if it weren’t so evil

On the one hand you have a white trash McCarthyite who has lied to the American people at every opportunity, pretending to be a middle class hockey mom while lavishing herself and her family with over $175,000 in clothing and accessories.
On the other hand you have a Presidential candidate using his campaign plane to fly home to Hawaii to see his gravely ill elderly grandmother for maybe the last time.
The only way these two events are in any similar is that both require the use of campaign funds. Where they differ is in necessity. It was not necessary to spend $175,000 to outfit Palin in Neiman Marcus’ latest styles. Indeed, I would argue that it was unnecessary. If she truly was a middle class hockey mom, Palin should wear what is in her closet. She should wear what she wore in the 2006 gubernatorial election, for it obviously worked for her, because she won that election.
Now it is necessary for Obama to use his campaign plane to travel. He has a massive Secret Service detail, made necessary because of all those racist right wing lunatics out there shouting “kill him” at McCain-Palin’s rallies. He can’t just “hump” his bags (whatever THAT is supposed to mean) onboard a commercial jet. It is also necessary for a grandson to see his grandmother on her death bed. That a Republican strategist would use these tragic circumstances to score political points is evil. And they must be repudiated by every Republican or conservative in the land.
Besides leaving a bad taste in everyone’s mouth, the comment is just plain stupid. Going to visit your dying grandmother is not the stuff of outrage. Imagine what this guy would have been saying if Obama hadn’t left the campaign trail. Family values, anyone?
This comment won’t play well with either Republicans or Democrats. The theme is too universal. We’ve all walked in Obama’s shoes.
Comparing a 150k make-over to flying to see a gravely ill grandmother just shows how desperate these guys are. It’s becoming painful to watch.
7 year old Piper Palin got a Louis Vuitton handbag courtesy of the RNC.
Awe Cute!
Heartless bastards.
In other news, this is both pathetic and criminal.
And even though he’ll claim otherwise, it sure isn’t funny.
Thanks for that Cassandra.
Again we see Republicans trying to poison the well of American Democracy. Sickening.
The guy is a real piece of sh!t.
I kinda knew the Republicans would try and make this an issue, I just kinda thought it would take em a little longer. This party clearly knows it is finished and they are very sore losers.
Agreed. They know they’re finished. Now their goal is delegitimizing the Obama Presidency. Anyone seen Ken Starr lately?
honestly, while these guys are heartless suck-fish it IS a bit amusing to watch them slowly die. I mean, McCain’s big platform is Joe the (unlicensed) plumber. I mean WOW
Joe the Plumber is getting a book-deal as reported by Keith
^ that’s great, let’s spread that book deal money around. 😉
It was not necessary to spend $175,000 to outfit Palin in Neiman Marcus’ latest styles.
It’s even less necessary for you to try to tell anyone else what to wear.
That guy is outrageous. I don’t think many Republicans are going to go for that attack, this guy was probably chosen to do a trial balloon. I just read that Joe McCain (brother of John), who called NoVA “communist country,” called 911 to complain that he was stuck in traffic.
Here’s the link to Joe McCain’s call, with audio:

My take, this entire issue (Palin’s clothes and Obama’s flight) is a stupid cheap shot, both sides. I don’t take issue with either. But then again I dig pricy duds.
There is no equivalence, Dorian. It is legitimate to criticize the McCain campaign for spending that much money on clothes for Palin all the while pretending she is just a regular hockey man. Criticizing that concerns political strategy and image, especially in these hard economic times.
Critizing Barack seeing his dying grandmother? That is subhuman.
Everyone should see their dying grandmother. Some of us can’t afford to. Will he be providing that opportunity too? Well even if he doesn’t, good for him for getting there, no matter what the hassle.
I’m starting to view these things as “The Republican Disconnect”. 150k on clothes is not comparable to flying to visit your dying grandmother. Yelling “kill him” or “terrorist” is not comparable to booing. Running ads implying Obama is associated with terrorists is not comparable to running ads criticizing McCain’s healthcare plan.
JC,
So we should have socialized dying grandmother visits?
