President Obama Speaks at Knox College

Filed in National by on July 24, 2013

President Obama is making a series of speeches on the economy — focusing on an economic vision for supporting and expanding the middle class. There will be other campaign-like speeches advertised to try to change the conversation. What I’m hoping is that these speeches serve as a launching point to start the 2014 effort to remind people that it isn’t “Washington” that is the problem — it is the GOP in Washington who have fought against middle class interests (while they aren’t completely ignoring them) every step of the way. The President rallied with the OFA folks on Monday (and who heard about this? rally that includes Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and the President and where is the news coverage?), and this is what gives me (small) hope:

“I’m going to talk about where we need to go from here. How we need to put behind us the distractions and the phony debates and nonsense that somehow passes for politics these days and get back to basics,” Obama said of his Illinois speech. “Refocus on what it is that everybody is talking about around the kitchen table, what people are talking about day to day with their families.”

We’ll see, I guess. It’s a target-rich environment and it would be nice to see the President start working at knocking them down. In any event, the speech is scheduled to start at 12:55 EDT. Feel free to use this as a liveblog thread if you are watching the speech.

Here is a summary of President Obama’s economic vision for the economy for the rest of his term.

Let me begin by saying socialism, yada yada yada, blah blah blah, and in conclusion, Socialism

Oh look who’s back — we already know you are a moron, RD, no need to keep proving it with every post. If you didn’t hear it (I didn’t, either), you don’t have to let us know that — we already know you haven’t a clue and won’t be getting one any time soon.

  3. Tom McKenney says:

Rusty you never answered my question What was the growth rate in Bush”s last quarter in office?

  4. Jason330 says:

Based on the recent news about people fleeing from the GOP at a unprecedented rate, Obama should have a field day beating up on MCConnell and Boehner. I fear his Bi-partisan instincts will not allow it.

  5. Truth Teller says:

I hope he grows some balls this time and calls their bluff

  6. FTW says:

    As Government expands, freedom contracts.
17 trillion in debt, 48 million food stamps, 123 trillion in underfunded liabilities, 7.6 unemployment and the answer is to spend more of what we do not have? So if one has credit card debt the answer is to take out more credit cards or print more money? When will Washington begin to operate like a business by not spending more than it takes in? Probably not in my life time. Rep or Dem this is a poor business plan for the future.

  7. Tom Hawk says:

I conclude that Obama is a practicing Masochist.

  8. cassandra_m says:

Businesses spend more than they take in pretty regularly. It is why bank lending disappearing after the crash was so critical for them And it isn’t just governments who issue bonds to raise capital.

Seriously — has anyone noticed that the people who scream about government operating like a business are largely clueless as to how businesses work? Sheesh.

  9. FTW says:

Name one business that has a debt of 17 trillion?

  10. cassandra_m says:

Right, so you got caught out on a completely stupid statement and now you are doubling down.

How if you start — give us the 10 Largest Companies that operate completely without access to credit facilities.

  11. Jason330 says:

Yowza! That should leave the idiot embarrassed (provided he has the capacity to feel shame or embarrassment).

  12. ftw says:

Cassandra….perhaps you should take a peek at usdebtclock.org to see just how much you owe for the reckless debt of 17 trillion. The debt per tax payer is $148,011. Note tax payer!! 124 trillion in underfunded liabilities. Not knowing your age but good luck to think that SS will be there for you or that Medicare/Medicaid can be sustained. Just spend into oblivion until the system collapse much like Greece.
Hopefully you do not manage your finances in the same manner as our politicians spend out tax money.

If one does not learn from history then one is doomed to repeat it.

You might note I never called you stupid or idiot and that says much about you and Jason.

    Have a great life

  13. cassandra_m says:

You might note that I called your claim stupid — which is certainly was — not you. But you can always tell a wingnut completely out of his element when he starts retreating to his victimization mode.

I asked you to name 10 Large businesses that operate utterly without credit facilities. Because you are the one saying that we should operate the way they do. And this is just more stupid:

Hopefully you do not manage your finances in the same manner as our politicians spend out tax money

My only debt is my house. Like most people, I took out a mortgage to get one. Look Ma, a household that needs credit! All of your dumbass cliches are failing you today.

Last — DL rules are that you use one name and stick with it. You’ve been here under multiple names, most recently — doc. There won’t be another warning.

  14. doc says:

Good luck on your pushing your of “YOUR’ beliefs rather than being open minded to the input from others and collectively address the real issues as an American that confront this country whether one is Dem or Rep.
