Reading The Conscience of a Liberal

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on November 16, 2008

Putting together Donviti’s reading list was quite fun. It also got me to go though my stack of books that I should be reading. I’ve started  Paul Krugman‘s The Conscience of a Liberal over the next few weeks and posting a “review” and possible discussion (depending how many people participate) of it on December 8th. Those of you who would like to read along and discuss in December, please pick up a copy and get reading. Those that have already read it, take another look and get ready to go on December 8th.

Wouldn’t the title, “The Conscience of a Liberal,” qualify as an oxymoron?

    Bwah ha ha ha ha!

    Bwah ha ha ha . . . . I can’t stop . . . . laughing . . . . bwah ha ha ha ha.

I can just imagine the reviews:

    – OMG, I agreed with everything he said.

    – I never knew so much about the liberal agenda. Oh, wait, yes I did. Great book!

    – I didn’t really agree with his stance on taxing the rich…psych! Rock on, Paulie! You should win the Pulitzer to bookend your Nobel!

It might be enjoyable to read the reviews of something completely non-partisan like Team of Rivals (which would be pretty topical) or – shudder at the thought – something written by someone with a conflicting POV.

Nothing like pre-reviewing a book to demonstrate open mindedness.

I’ll pick up the book this week and get reading!

  7. Puzzler says:

This book is pretty good, but also very predictable.

A book that really surprises is “The Great Derangement” by Matt Taibbi. This guy is a few degrees shy of Hunter S. Thompson

  8. Rebecca says:

I love this book. And this is a great excuse to reread it.

Did anybody catch ABC w/snufflelumpugus this morning? Krugman took George Will to the woodshed! It was priceless.

It’s a great book and it’s very timely right now. I highly recommend it.

I’m not even chuckling at the “joke” that liberals have no conscience. Not cool.

Cool! This book is on my To Read pile, and I’ll go dig it up. We saw him speak at the Philly Library last fall (?I think) and he is a delightful speaker in person.

  12. is anyone reading this?

I’m cramming the audiobook this weekend, just for this occasion! LOL

Recently read “The Way of the World” by Ron Suskind and “The Shock Doctrine” by Naomi Klein. I recommend both, of course.
