For someone who was luke warm about running, Bonini is really turning into an actual candidate. And as a voter who (like all Delaware voters) is very “meh” about John Carney, I like that this race could get interesting.

Bipartisan bill seeks to end civil forfeiture in Delaware
April 6, 2016 · by Matt Bittle · 4 CommentsDOVER – Delaware lawmakers unveiled bipartisan legislation Wednesday that would end a practice that allows police to seize cash and property from anyone simply suspected of being involved in criminal activity.
Known as civil asset forfeiture, the controversial procedure has allowed law enforcement the right to take money, cars and other property from citizens without a conviction.
The system has come under fire for not requiring the accused be found guilty in a court of law. Opponents note it results in innocent citizens being deprived of what is rightfully theirs.
The watchdog group Institute for Justice gave Delaware a D- for its civil forfeiture laws which place the burden of proof on the accused.
“In America, the government should not be able to take your property unless they can prove you did something wrong,” Sen. Colin Bonini, R-Dover, said at a news conference.
When is Carney going to start courting me like this?
Is this a first-in-the-nation? Can’t wait to see the roll call on this, provided it gets out of some ex-cop’s committee first.

The legislation is modeled after New Mexico’s, which is quite strong. What has happened in New Mexico, unfortunately, is that police are simply participating in the federal program, which really has few protections. The downside to the police is that they don’t get all of the money. This bill deserves support. Please contact your legislators.

Carney, on the other hand, spoke to a group of teachers last night about the scary national debt and bipartisanship!!!! and how the tone is better in Delaware than in Washington. Apparently he’s never been on a blog or read the comments section of a news story anywhere.
Calling him a douche nozzle would be an insult to the feminine products industry.
LOL, Carney has replaced “deficit” with “debt” and keeps his schtick the same.
