So much for being pulled to the left….

I can’t wait for the announcement that Jamie Dimon is going to be Treasury Secretary.

Hillary forces target Bush donors

The message to Moderate Republicans: She represents your values better than Trump.

NEW YORK — Hillary Clinton’s supporters in recent days have been making a furious round of calls to top Bush family donors to try to convince them that she represents their values better than Donald Trump, multiple sources in both parties told POLITICO.

The moves come as Clinton and the Democratic Party try to take advantage of deep unease among establishment Republicans on Wall Street and elsewhere with Trump’s emergence as the presumptive Republican nominee.

    stop weakening the candidate.

  2. Delaware Dem says:

Separating Republican donors from their money and using it to elect Hillary is a great idea. It is political malpractice to not do it. The only way this is a bad thing is if you assume because you take someone’s money it means you immediately adopt all the opinions and goals of the donor. That is simply not true, and it has been proven not true repeatedly during the primary with regards to Hillary.

If Bernie were in Hillary’s shoes right now, I would expect his campaign to do the same thing and I would not assume that Bernie was some kind of corporate sell out.

  3. Ben says:

One thing I dont understand, J….. Why do we assume Clinton is lying to “us”?
Let’s say she IS kind of a dishonest person. That is, willing to say something to gain support, but she never really intends to act on it. (im going somewhere with this, H-club stalwarts) Why cant she be lying to the big money folks? Why cant the con be against them? after 30 years of being constantly attacked, she probably has some very justifiable resentments toward the oligarchy. It’s possible… not saying I think this, just throwing out a life raft…. that she will take their money and spend it on a progressive agenda.

    Let the spinning begin.

  5. Liberal Elite says:

@B “Why do we assume Clinton is lying to “us”?”

Good point. She might be trying to:
    1. Give them pause before donating to Trump… and maybe they won’t
    2. Give her an excuse to screw them over when they decline

It looks just like an old fashion shake down.
“Nice bank you have there… It would be terrible if something were to happen to it.”

  6. puck says:

I think the pitch is more like “I saved you from President Bernie; now show some gratitude.”

  7. Jason330 says:

I’m going on a Bernie v Hillary comment hiatus, but I will say this on my way out the door – The Democratic Party needs to consider the needs and wants of small dollar donors and determine if having those donors energized is important to their electoral strategy.

I have always assumed that the small dollar donors are important for Democrats to activate, but could be wrong.

  8. puck says:

Hillary is a cinch to win, so all this money is for financing a downticket 50-state strategy, right?

  9. nemski says:

    But Trump ™

  10. nemski says:

@jason330 Criticizing Hillary is not a Bernie v Clinton thing. It’s called keeping her feet to the fire.

  11. Dave says:

    “Hillary forces target Bush donors”

This is smart. I will readily admit that Clinton is a centrist and it’s pretty apparent that neither Jeb Bush nor his supporters are right wing nut jobs. Why not co-opt them. The best that can happen is that vote for Clinton, but at a minimum maybe they sit home.

Just like the current talk about getting Garland approved before the election to avoid the possibility of giving all the vacancies to Clinton who is less likely to nominate someone that the far right likes.

Of course if I were Obama, I might float a balloon about withdrawing the nomination and really scare the hell out them.

  12. SussexAnon says:

Carper targets republican voters and that seems to work out really well doesn’t it?

The problem with pandering is you never know who exactly is going to get the short end of the stick. Given that money is the lifeblood of politics, your living wage, affordable college tuition and healthcare is going to have to take a back seat. As usual.

Her plan to hardly move left at all so she could stay right it working out just perfectly for her. We are just moments away from talking about bombing some sand box thousands of miles away to “take the fight to them”

  13. kavips says:

From a purely tactical advantage of weakening the opponent, it is brilliant. The backslide is that it alienates considerable her party’s supporters who view policies by this group as being the cause of all their grief.

Though these donors may choose not to support Hillary, they may because of her outreach, also choose not to support Trump. Which is a win for Hillary.

But, all these Republicans who might pay lip service to Hillary during her contest against Trump, will on January 2017, again become the party of “no” to everything she wants to accomplish…

The battle for Congress is now on. This is where the policy shift will or will not occur. (and this time, don’t settle for 59 in the Senate; you will need to fight for the whole 60)

  14. puck says:

With these Dems you need at least 80 Senators to pass anything that resembles a Democratic bill.
