Will Donald Trump knock Al Smith off the Top Ten Biggest Losers in Presidential election history?

The biggest losers by popular vote are as follows:

  1. John Cox lost by 26.17% to Harding
  2. John Davis lost by 25.22% to Coolidge
  3. Alf Landon lost by 24.26% to FDR
  4. George McGovern lost by 23.15% to Nixon
  5. Barry Goldwater lost by 22.58% to Johnson
  6. Alton Brooks Parker lost by 18.83% to Teddy Roosevelt
  7. Walter Mondale lost by 18.21% to Reagan
  8. Henry Clay lost by 17.81% to Jackson
  9. Herbert Hoover lost by 17.76% to FDR
  10. Al Smith lost by 17.41% to Hoover

Bonus question: Assuming Trump breaks into the Top 10 of the Biggest Losers, where will he end up.

    No. Because it’s Hillary, so the Libertarian and Green candidates will shave several points off her victory margin.

    MW is right, there will be plenty of anti-Hillary votes that go somewhere other than Trump.

    Jill Stein of the Green Party will be lucky to keep the 2% she has now in polling. I normally vote Green in presidential contests, but I won’t vote for an anti-vaxxer — and an MD at that!

    Libertarian Gary Johnson, on the other hand, polls at 10% or above in every red state poll I’ve seen.

    I’d guess “No” right now because of polarization and rabid partisanship of the Republican faithful. That said, Trump has three debates and many speeches to give between now and election day.
