I have absolutely no idea what to expect, but I bet it’s going to be really ugly.

  1. nemski says:

Oh good lord, Donald Trump destroyed the GOP tonight.

  2. pandora says:

I know… and I bet he’s just started. He’ll go after Rs who spoke out against him. He’s going to burn the whole house down. Silver lining: His “brand” is toast.

  3. anonymous says:

Apparently they are warning parents of the potential for adult content.

We must be the laughingstock of the rest of the world — not because we’re better than them, but because we always claimed to be.

  4. nemski says:

“Paula Jones is a loser.” – Donald Trump, 1998

  5. nemski says:

Michael Steele is now a voice of reason for the Republican Party.

  6. cassandra m says:

OMG, I just saw that this happened. No wonder Kellyanne Conway has been MIA this weekend.

  7. Prop Joe says:

I feel like someone may need to rewrite the lyrics to “I’m Proud to be an American” after tonight… If Trump’s “surprise” debate prep panel is any indication…

This is going to be a brutal, awkward, cringe-worthy 90 minutes… Certainly has to be 50/50 one of them says “Fuck You” to the other

  8. puck says:

“He’ll go after Rs who spoke out against him.”

Remember the pattern: anybody insulted by Trump becomes a victim deserving of sympathy. Trump will make the rest of the GOP look like the mythical “sane Republicans.”

The good news for the GOP is that Republican values and economic theories are not on the table for this campaign. It’s now only about the f-ed up vulgarity of one man. The GOP can survive Trump.

  9. Prop Joe says:

I’m sure there’s a Vegas line on the over/under for the number of times the cameras cut to a shot of the Trump Four

  10. puck says:

    No handshake.

  11. pandora says:

Good. He probably popped tic tacs back stage.

  12. anonymous says:

    “The GOP can survive Trump.”

In what form, though? Each side is only half the party.

  13. pandora says:

He’s sniffling again. What’s up with that? Is it a nervous thing?

  14. Paula says:

Trump’s strategy appears to be bait and switch and evasion.

  15. Paula says:

Clinton wins on the applause line.

  16. puck says:

re: sniffling – I think Trump is making an effort to keep his voice low to sound more measured and presidential. He knows he is speaking lower so he holds the mic closer, and when he does that it picks up on his nasal inhalations and makes them seem unnaturally loud. If I’m right the sniffling should be less evident when he picks up that pace, which should be any minute now.

  17. cassandra m says:

He never apologized — nice, HRC.

  18. cassandra m says:

There we go, working on Green Party conspiracy theory now.

  19. pandora says:

OMG! He’s going to appoint a special prosecutor! He’s completely insane.

  20. Paula says:

I don’t think she expected him to go off the rails so soon.

  21. AQC says:

I don’t think he did tic tac backstage. I think he did cocaine.

  22. puck says:

No, he’s still trying to hold back. There’s more to come

  23. Paula says:

Just accused moderators are ganging up on him.

  24. pandora says:

He has lost it. He asks why Anderson didn’t ask about the emails – right after a question about the emails.

  25. Paula says:

I have to say, I would NOT turn my back on Donald J. Trump!

  26. Holy Bleep!

He’s not even trying to pretend he’s running for President. Totally unhinged!

  27. nemski says:

I wonder what it is like to run for president against a spoiled and misbehaving toddler.

  28. pandora says:

He has plans for great healthcare.

  29. nemski says:

Trump gets asked a policy question and fails miserably.

  30. Jason330 says:

This crowd is a bunch of motherfuckers.

  31. puck says:

Anderson Cooper wants to debate Trump himself.

  32. pandora says:

Trump on Islamophobia: He’s for it!

  33. Brian says:

What Donald doesn’t mention is insurance companies have no interest in “competing” with each other across state lines. Anyone who lives in Delaware and knows the names Highmark and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware know that competition isn’t even in their repertoire.

  34. cassandra m says:

So did I lose count? Only one question from the audience?

  35. nemski says:

HIllary’s first stumble on the private versus public position.

  36. pandora says:

There’s been a few. The question about kids was first.

Uh oh, Hillary went after Trump’s BFF

  37. Paula says:

My impression of Trump is of a bad stand-up comic.

  38. AQC says:

He’s starting with the word salad.

  39. cassandra m says:

Not a stumble — have you seen the context of that quote?

During a talk before the National Multi-Housing Council in 2013, she talked about the need to keep political negotiations secret, for instance, citing the example of Abraham Lincoln’s wheeling and dealing to get the 13th amendment passed. “I mean, politics is like sausage being made,” she said. “It is unsavory, and it always has been that way, but we usually end up where we need to be. But if everybody’s watching, you know, all of the back room discussions and the deals, you know, then people get a little nervous, to say the least. So, you need both a public and a private position.”

  40. Paula says:

I’m waiting for her to cross her eyes in response to one of his statements.

  41. Brian says:

How do we change a tax code with a congress that won’t do jack for anything?

  42. nemski says:

    Thanks Cassandra.

  43. cassandra m says:

I thought this audience was meant to be undecideds.

  44. Prop Joe says:

How exactly would they verify that they are undecided? Because the “honor system” sure as shit doesn’t exist anymore

  45. Paula says:

I’m glad to hear her advocate a no-fly zone in Syria. I have never understood why that wasn’t done 4 years ago.

  46. Paula says:

I think she should give her 2 mins to Trump and ask him to answer the question about what he would do there.

  47. cassandra m says:

    From Van Jones:

“Locker room talk”? From guy who clearly has not been in a gym in 20 years?? Nah. #IfTrumpWereBlack, we’d be hearing about “THUG behavior.”

    AmenAmenAmen

  48. chris says:

Martha Raddatz seems totally pissed at Trump

  49. chris says:

Best Van Jones line from the day on TV :
The Republicans will never dump Trump because they are against late term abortions!

  50. Aoine says:

How can you be a woman and NOT BE PISSED at Trump

  51. Brian says:

FWIW, I think the people on stage are the undecideds.

  52. Steve Newton says:

Sorry, I’m having trouble believing that the people we’ve seen asking questions truly haven’t decided not to avoid Trump.

  53. Jason330 says:

Who do we think is winning this thing?

  54. pandora says:

Trump has spent the evening catering solely to his base.

  55. nemski says:

    Martha Raddatz

  56. Paula says:

    Nemski for the win!

  57. Jason330 says:

Martha is being pummeled by Trump.

  58. Liberal Elite says:

I’d say a win for Hillary for two reasons:

    1. This debate changes nothing.
    2. It’s clear that Trump is not dropping out.

  59. cassandra m says:

HRC was still trying to talk to swing voters and Trump is still trying to lock down his base.

The free-for-all at the beginning let HRC stand up against a bully, again.

What was that business about throwing Pence under the bus?

This was decisive a win for HRC for me, but I think the MSM will grade on a curve for Trump since he settled down after the first fireworks. It didn’t matter that he debated in Breitbart headlines.

  60. chris says:

Hillary’s worst answer was the Abe Lincoln thing on the public and private positions on an issue. She looked bad and Trump nailed her on it. She was being too intellectual and too cute by half. The public doesn’t buy those answers.

  61. pandora says:

Chris, please read Cassandra’s answer (and link) above.

  62. Liberal Elite says:

@c “She was being too intellectual and too cute by half. The public doesn’t buy those answers.”

Are you certain? We all do it. And we sure know that Trump does it, BIG TIME. He just calls it “locker room chatter”, but it’s exactly the same thing.
Trump has a public and a private position on sexual assault.

The serious point is that when you’re setting policy in a way that resembles “making sausage”, sometimes its best to not put everything out on the table.

  63. cassandra m says:

Chris demonstrates the difference between voters who are interested in facts and voters who are interested in performance.

Trump worked at minimizing his history of sexual abuse, he lied about his support of Iraq, he lied about Bill Clinton, lied about a peace treaty with Syria, lied, lied, lied.

  64. Liberal Elite says:

    @c “…lied, lied, lied.”

For certain, but I’m guessing that about half of those “lies” are pure ignorance.
It’s only a lie if he knows its wrong.

  65. chris says:

No, I am suspicious of any politician who can rationalize her reasons for holding private positions and public positions. Kind of like all the leaders (cowards) who were publicly against same sex marriage for years, until they felt it safe enough to come out for it. I won’t name names.

  66. Paula says:

CNN instant poll of debate watchers — who won:
    57% for HRC
    34% for DJT

  67. anonymous says:

“I am suspicious of any politician who can rationalize her reasons for holding private positions and public positions.”

You should always be suspicious of politicians anyway, but she’s doing nothing there except acknowledging something that’s true of everyone who holds “public positions” on anything. So you’re penalizing her for telling the truth.

  68. cassandra m says:

No, I am suspicious of any politician who can rationalize her reasons for holding private positions and public positions.

And AGAIN, you aren’t even paying attention to what she was talking about. Much like you are ignoring what I am trying to point out to you.

    A pattern emerges, I think.

  69. SussexAnon says:

The whole debate crossed over into sci-fi territory when a fly landed on Hillary’s face and you could hear on her mic “Help me. Help me.”

  70. Ben says:

Joe Biden’s personal feelings about abortion and public position of supporting choice comes to mind

  71. Ben says:

SA, I saw that, thought it was my tv

  72. Rufus Y. Kneedog says:

I thought Trump got at least a draw. He did enough to turn the narrative. The “that’s because you’d be in jail” line is the one people will be talking about. And the camera/production crews did him a huge favor by cutting from him making a weak accusation to a hollow looking Bill and to the three accusers. It gave that whole line of attack a legitimacy it wouldn’t have had otherwise.

  73. pandora says:

    Let the fact checking begin.

  74. To me, Trump’s demeanor was just so strange. My wife and I watched together, and we couldn’t take our eyes away from Trump’s stalking around the stage and that perpetual grimace adorning his face. Trump looked as unpresidential as you could get.

Oh, and he said that he never groped anybody, didn’t pay federal taxes, and he’ll put Hillary in jail. Cue the spots and the next oppo drop.

But it’s the stalking that I’ll remember. It just reinforced every creepy notion that people have now developed about Trump. I can’t imagine Trump persuading anybody who wasn’t already with him to vote for him based off of that performance.

  75. puck says:

I think his TV experience has trained him to move to stay on camera. But if people think it’s stalking, and that helps him lose, that’s fine with me.

  76. bamboozer says:

My first full scale look at Trump, weak stomach and no desire to regurgitate. I was shocked, shocked I say, at what an immature bully he really is. The barrage of lies I expected, but he’s a sniffling sociopath who cannot control himself, the faces and playground taunts really show him for what he is.
