Calling All Liberals! WDEL’s Feed A Friend Food Drive Needs You!
Al Mascitti is in the middle of WDEL’s annual Feed a Friend Food Drive which buys food for the Newark Area Welfare Committee, Sunday Breakfast Mission, The Emmanuel Dining Room, YWCA Delaware and St. Paul’s Church Outreach Center. They’ve set this up so you buy food by the case, and $11.50 buys one case.
Why Did The News Journal Turn Down This Ad?
The SEIU has been working at organizing the janitors at Wilmington Trust HQ. The janitors are hired and managed by Optima Cleaning Systems — but the SEIU filed unfair labor relations charges against this Optima this past spring with the NLRB. The NLRB and Optima settled at least part of the charges made, which resulted in some monetary restitution by Optima to 7 individuals and required Optima to post where employees could see it a formal notice listing the ways that Optima was not to interfere with organizing activities.
Note to the Media — The Science of Climate Change is NOT a Horserace
And I guess that I should cop to the fact that this note is to Allan Loudell who I heard do an appalling report on the tempest in a teapot that are these emails that wingnuts are insisting are some kind of catastrophe.
In this interview, Allan was speaking to a reported from the Christian Science Monitor and their entire conversation was largely organized to talk about climate change as though it is a horserace. Particularly appalling was a question I heard Allan ask ( paraphrasing) noting that there are scientists who are the gatekeepers of the journals and they don’t let the deniers publish — is there anyone who can be trusted to talk about this issue or to definitively answer the questions?
100 Greatest Quotes from The Wire
I loved this show and saw it almost entirely in DVD or via bittorrent. In fact, this show is how I even found out about bittorrent. In any event, this was a brilliantly written show, with alot of memorable and true characters — with an extra special bonus throughout the seasons if you knew anything at all about Baltimore politics or law enforcement.

Sunday Papers: The UK Iraq War Inquiry
We haven’t done this for awhile, but this effort by the British to take a hard look at how they came to be involved in the Iraq War doesn’t seem to have gotten much press stateside. So far, I’ve seen one NYT article (this post written on 11/28, tho) and heard some NPR reports.
Top 5 Republican Lies for 2009
Even though the year isn’t over, TPM catalogs the Top 5 ways that the GOP stepped into the national conversation with lies, distortions, bad faith and plain made up data.
National Day of Listening
I was going to post up something about the Black Friday madness (even picked out some music), but I heard something yesterday which I think is much more useful.
Classic Thanksgiving Video Fare
The WKRP in Cincinnati Turkey Drop episode for those of you looking for a small time killer as you recover from your turkey and gravy overdose. This is the very funny end of that episode:
Little Kids Re-Enact the First Thanksgiving (and Other Stuff)
These kids are adorable even tho the history isn’t exactly right, but it seems like the perfect Delaware Liberal thing to do to put up a video re-enacting Thanksgiving from the junior Howard Zinn perspective:
Tom Carper Never Lets Go the Rightwing Talking Points
Call this post reason #578,091 why Senator Tom Carper is not a progressive. As if a proud member of the DLC could be. Senator Carper tells WHYY:
