Paul Krugman notes that while Donald Trump “doesn’t exude presidential dignity, he’s seeking the nomination of a party that once considered it a great idea to put George W. Bush in a flight suit and have him land on an aircraft carrier.”
“The point is that those predicting Mr. Trump’s imminent political demise are ignoring the lessons of recent history, which tell us that poseurs with a knack for public relations can con the public for a very long time. Someday The Donald will have his Katrina moment, when voters see him for who he really is. But don’t count on it happening any time soon.”
Coons is a Yes.
Click here to view the webast. It is worth noting that Senator Casey of Pennsylvania, widely expected to be a no, along with Chris Coons, has just announced that he will vote yes. So perhaps Senator Coons will surprise me here with a good decision.

Coons’s decision, coming in an exclusive interview with The Washington Post, delivered a powerful blow to opponents of the plan because the Delaware Democrat had previously voiced some of the deepest skepticism about the controversial deal. It came as Casey announced support for the deal and left Obama needing just one more vote in the Senate to claim victory.
Coons reached his decision after many weeks of deliberation that included long talks with top administration officials — including his political mentor, Vice President Biden — and an exchange of letters with President Obama that codified the assurances he received about the pact’s implementation.
“We are better off trying diplomacy first,” Coons told The Washington Post in an exclusive interview.

Well then. 2016, the year Republicans finally got honest. “Yes, we are bigots. Yes, we are racists. And yes, we want to control a woman’s choices.”
In Kentucky, we have reached the point where force is required.
So that hateful bigot of a county clerk in Rowan County, Kentucky, Kim Davis, has been denying the issuance of marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples since the Supreme Court’s decision in late June 2015 allowing for them. State and Federal appeallate courts have ordered her to follow the Constitution and the Supreme Court’s ruling, which is the supreme law of the land. She refused, and appealed to the Supreme Court. Last night, they denied her. But this morning, she is refusing, citing to God’s authority.

In arking the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Paul Krugman noted that Katrina was the moment that the scales fell off the eyes of Americans to reveal who George W. Bush actually was:
“Katrina was special in political terms because it revealed such a huge gap between image and reality. Ever since 9/11, former President George W. Bush had been posing as a strong, effective leader keeping America safe. He wasn’t…It took a domestic disaster, which made his administration’s cronyism and incompetence obvious to anyone with a TV set, to burst his bubble.”
He thinks we are witnessing a similar moment with Jeb Bush.
“Consider Jeb Bush, once hailed on the right as “the best governor in America,” when in fact all he did was have the good luck to hold office during a huge housing bubble. Many people now seem baffled by Mr. Bush’s inability to come up with coherent policy proposals, or any good rationale for his campaign. What happened to Jeb the smart, effective leader? He never existed.”
The Coons Soaking the Spotlight for All Its Worth Announcement
I think Senator Chris Coons desires more war and thus he is a no on the Iran Deal. My evidence for this is that he is doing what fellow Senator Bob Menendez did: give a highly touted speech at a University to announce your decision. If he was a yes, he would just announce it in an interview or a press release like Tom Carper did, and like 30 other of his fellow Democratic Senators.
I hope I am wrong, and I will publicly say I was wrong here tomorrow if Coons surprises me, and makes a big show of voting yes. But, that is not the feel I am getting. So if you feel like attending a speech to boo and heckle the Senator nonstop throughout his speech once he announces his no vote, here are the details.

The only thing that gives me pause in thinking that Coons will be a no is the fact that it is very clear to all concerned that Iran Deal will obtain the support of 34 Democratic Senators it needs to sustain the President’s veto. Indeed, the only real suspenseful question is whether the Democrats can obtain the 41 votes they need to filibuster the rejection from ever getting to the President’s desk. The warmongering campaign that Iran Deal opponents launched failed, and everyone knows it….
The Weekly Addresses
The President spoke about his upcoming trip to Alaska, during which he will view the effects of climate change firsthand. Alaskans are already living with the impact of climate change, with glaciers melting faster, and temperatures projected to rise between six and twelve degrees by the end of the century.
Governor Markell highlights education efforts across Delaware to better prepare our students for success. LOL.
