Off and Running
From Rebecca in the comments to another post, we learn that New Castle County Executive Chris Coons will hold his three-county announcement tour, as is traditional for Delaware, on Monday, April 19th
Well, That’s Another Start
The 38th RD in Sussex County votes to not endorse in intra party primaries, and John Carney’s fundraising is well on track downstate.
Why We Like and Dislike Celia Cohen
It is our fault here at Delaware Liberal that we missed this little tidbit until now. But it is because of the reasons we dislike Celia Cohen that we missed out on what we sometimes like about her: an insidery and unintended reveal. The reveal this time? Sussex County Republicans, with Tom Ross and Michele Rollins in attendance, embrace birtherism.
For once, I agree with David Anderson.
HB 198 is Delaware’s component legislation in a national effort to eliminate the electoral college. The measure who allocate Delaware’s electoral votes (as well as all other state’s electoral votes) to the winner of the popular vote, no matter who Delaware voters actually vote for. Basically, it is an end run around the Constitutionally established Electoral College, which would require a Constitutional Amendment to change or abolish, which is exceedingly difficult, and David is probably right that this national effort will not and does not pass constitutional muster.
17%
If you read our illustrious rivals over at Delaware Politics, or really any conservative blog or any “reporter” on Fox “News,” you are led to believe that the overwhelming majority of Americans are Teabaggers. And I am not even talking about a 50 + 1 majority, I am talking about the “constitutional” majority of over 60% or more. However, a Republican polling outfit called the Winston Group is out with some poll results that should, but won’t, change that narrative.
DE GOP is on the comeback trail?
Apparently not if the new voter registration numbers are to be believed. As with the registration figures during the 2006 and 2008 election cycles, the Democratic Party enjoys not only increasing number of state citizens, but also an increasing disparity between itself and the supposedly reinvigorated DE GOP.
Health Insurance Mandates Nearly as old as Constitution.
I happened onto this little fact by way of Roger Ebert, of “At The Movies with Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert” fame, who is now quite the avid and political tweeter recently. And would you believe me if I told you that one of our most important Founding Fathers, President John Adams, signed legislation providing for a health insurance mandate?
Bring It, Spence.
Terry Spence, the disgraced and defeated former GOP Speaker, berates Gibson (unknowingly to her face) about her column exposing the GOP misappropriation of funds during their control of the GA. Like a criminal who is angry at the Police for getting caught. And he thinks he can run for the House again. That would make our day.
Markell Is Now Giving Weekly Addresses.
What, does he think he is, the President of something? All kidding aside, I do think this is a good idea, because it is always a good thing for our government to be informing us of what they are doing in our name. And if we don’t like it, we vote them out, and if we do like it, we keep them. That is how America works, unless of course you are a violent Republican teabagger terrorist, but I digress. Click through for the first address.
Burris Breaks From the Violence.
Dave Burris: “This behavior by Congressional Republicans (childish) and certain Tea Party elements (criminally dangerous) will cost the GOP in 2010.” I am going to say something that I never thought I would say: I agree with Dave Burris.
Millionaire Michele Rollins Takes Bonus from Wilmington Trust TARP Funds
Michele Rollins was elected to the Wilmington Trust Board of Directors in 2007. During the market collapse in 2008, Wilmington Trust, like many other financial institutions, received a $330 million bailout from TARP. Unlike many other financial institutions, Wilmington Trust has as of yet failed to pay that money back. Instead, it payed its top […]
