Song(s) Of The Day 10/28: The Kinks-Three From ‘Arthur (Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire)’
While everyone else was zigging from Woodstock to Altamont in 1969, the Kinks, who were barred from the US due to alleged misbehavior on a previous tour, zagged. Created this masterpiece with an interesting backstory. And great songs:
El Somnambulo Barely Escapes Clutches Of The Marriott Cult
A generous benefactor gifted us a vacation to San Diego as my wife had been nominated for a national pharmacy award. As such, we were guests at the Marriott Pulse Hotel. I emphasize ‘guests’ as the hotel also serves as a spot for ‘owners’ of Marriott Vacation Club plans. When we checked in, a staffer […]

Carney Nominates Seitz To Be Supreme Court Chief Justice And Tamika Montgomery-Reeves As Associate Justice. I can only hope that Seitz has the same sense of social justice as his fabled father. AG: Wilmington City Council Can’t Stifle Dissenters. Betcha they don’t pursue any prosecution of Dion Wilson for ‘harassment and disorderly conduct’ either. If […]
Song Of The Day 10/27: Roger McGuinn-Ballad Of Easy Rider
Legend has it that Dylan scrawled the opening lines on a napkin and said, ‘Give it to McGuinn, he’ll know what to do with it.’ After viewing a private screening of the film, Dylan demanded that his name be removed from the songwriting credit–either b/c he didn’t like the movie, and/or he didn’t want his […]
Song Of The Day 10/25: John Mayall-Room To Move
Following the breakup of The Bluesbreakers, John Mayall decided to form a band that would play ‘low-volume music. This cut comes from a live concert at Bill Graham’s Fillmore East in July of 1969:
Song Of The Day 10/24: The Flying Burrito Brothers-Sin City
When Gram Parsons left, or was fired from, the Byrds after Sweetheart of The Rodeo, he rebounded with the Flying Burrito Brothers, joined by fellow ex-Byrd Chris Hillman. I just love this song, the very definition of country rock:
Songs Of The Day 10/23: Joni Mitchell-Both Sides, Now & Chelsea Morning
Other artists had already recorded these classics before Joni got around to doing them on her 1969 album, Clouds. I consider her to be one of our greatest singer/songwriters. I think she got better as a singer as she progressed in her career, but there’s no denying that these are two classic songs. Gotta admit, […]

That Phony Emoluments Clause. It’s the Founding Fathers’ fault. Besides, it doesn’t matter if you’re already rich. BTW, here’s how he planned to get around that pesky clause–get rich donors to pay for Doral. I, uh, don’t think that would have worked. Approval For Vulnerable Rethug Senators Plummets. Don’t see this trend reversing any time […]
Songs Of The Day 10/22: Neil Young-Cinnamon Girl/Down By The River
Although his first solo album was an understated gem and well worth seeking out, his post-Springfield career really got started with his second release, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. Crazy Horse was (were?) the perfect band to complement Neil here. Here are two of the best-known songs from the album:

D’s Losing Social Media Race–Bigly. There is no excuse for this. This should be a strength, not a weakness. It speaks to the ossified ‘leadership’ of the national party. How ALEC Plans To Protect Rethug Gerrymanders. Forewarned is forearmed. Except dim-bulb D’s may not pay attention. Buttigieg And Zuckerberg: Perfect Together? Zuckerberg will use all […]
Song Of The Day 10/21: Neil Diamond-Sweet Caroline
OK, I don’t like this song. But at our 50th HS Reunion, everyone was singing along to it. Even I joined in. Wine will do that to you:

Trump Bails On Doral. Read it for the Madman’s tweets. My fave?: “….Therefore, based on both Media & Democrat Crazed and Irrational Hostility, we will no longer consider Trump National Doral, Miami, as the Host Site for the G-7 in 2020.” Actually, we know that this was a Golf Course Too Far, even for the […]
