General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show-Weds., Jan. 11, 2012
While the legislative season didn’t exactly kick off with a bang, the political Hot Stove League was in full blast mode in Dover. House Minority Leader Greg Lavelle, who had already told colleagues that he would not run for reelection to the House, announced that he would seek the 4th Senatorial District seat currently held by Sen. Michael Katz (D-Centreville). More surprising was the announcement that Rep. Dennis E. Williams from Brandywine Hundred is facing a primary challenger.
Delaware General Assembly Pre-Game Show: Tues., Jan. 10, 2012
In January, legislators’ thoughts turn to…bath salts. And reelection. And with the ‘honorables’ back in Dover for the not-so-spring training portion of the legislative schedule, the banning of bath salts is the one certainty awaiting them.
Delaware 2012 Political Weekly: January 1 to January 6, 2012
Just in time for the 2012 Delaware election season, I’m starting a brand new weekly feature for all you political junkies out there. Each Friday, I will review the political events of the past week. Events will include, but not be limited to, announcements, filings, retirements, intrigue, financial reports, debates, etc. I aim to be comprehensive and, of course, entertaining. Accordingly, I will often evaluate/predict how meaningful (or not meaningful) each development might be. I’m also pretty certain that this format will change as I get more accustomed to writing the weekly pieces.
Happy New Year, Gov. Markell and AG Biden! Now, About Tony DeLuca…
Governor Markell and Attorney General Biden: I hereby wish you both a Happy New Year. I wish you nothing but the best in 2012. I know that you and/or members of your respective staffs read this post concerning Tony DeLuca simultaneously holding the offices of President Pro Tempore of the Delaware State Senate and the Director of Labor Law Enforcement for the Department of Labor. And now it is time for you both to do something about it.
Did Tony DeLuca Resign From the State Senate And Not Even Know It?
I believe that the answer is yes. I believe that legal precedent established in this state also says yes. I believe that, according to law, Tony DeLuca is illegally serving as President Pro-Tempore of the Delaware State Senate and illegally serving as a member of the Delaware State Senate. I shall now proceed to explain to you why I believe this to be true.
‘Bulo’s 2011 Top 10 MVPs (Most Valuable to the Progressive Cause)
2011 was a mixed year for progressivism in Delaware. We saw tremendous strides on social issues, especially equal rights for all Delawareans. We also saw the ongoing embrace between prominent D elected officials and the Billionaires on the Hill, to the detriment of the other 99%. We saw the emergence of the ‘We Are the 99%’ movement via OWS which, nationally was the best thing to happen for the progressive cause since 1964. We saw ongoing corruption, inbreeding and cronyism in the Delaware General Assembly. We saw the first legitimate attempts to challenge the rot at the core of the Delaware Way.
Don’t Forget: MVP List Unveiled at 10 A. M. Today
To be released simultaneously here at Delaware Liberal and on the Al Mascitti Show on WDEL 1150-Newsradio. Followed by 2 hours of MVP talk on Al’s show. Why don’tcha click onto DL and follow along as we discuss the picks, the omissions, and the concept of ‘blogging as performance art’? What do I mean by that? All will be answered beginning at 10 this morning. For those new here, MVP is my annual Top 1o list of those who contributed the Most to the Progressive Cause in Delaware. Past winners were Karen Peterson and Christine O’Donnell. Who will it be this year?
‘Bulo To Unveil His 2011 MVP List Tuesday, Dec. 13…
…and for the first time, it will be simultaneously released here at DL and on the Al Mascitti Show. We’re talking 10 a.m., folks, here and on WDEL-1150 AM. I’m putting my magnum opus together now, and it will be fraught with both fun and controversy. I’ve gotten more comfortable with my list as I’ve prepared it. Of course, I’ve changed my initial list twice now already, and I’m likely not done fiddling with it.
Tiny Tony to Sen. Bonini: “Merry Xmas From Da Godfadda!”
You may remember the undistinguished Bonini pissed (and perhaps ate) away his shot at State Treasurer and, about a month later, flipped his vote to give Tony DeLuca the number needed to hang on to his spot as President Pro-Tempore. You may also remember the undistinguished Bonini as the ‘fiscal watchdog’ who ripped off the state’s taxpayers by not showing up for his job on the Joint Sunset Committee, yet still getting paid for it. As punishment for Bonini ripping off the taxpayers, noted ‘double-dipper’ Tiny Tony DeLuca, inexplicably the President Pro-Tempore of the Delaware State Senate, has given Colin Bonini a promotion. To the Capital Improvements Committee, or ‘Bond Bill’ Committee.
Terror in Tiny Tony Town??
Turns out that Tiny Tony DeLuca’s personal employment records weren’t the only records being withheld by the Department of Labor. And, get this, turns out that the records being withheld, this time the “records and construction site visit logs of labor law officers to see which companies were investigated for allegations of workplace fraud and not paying the prevailing wage rates on the public works projects in 2010 and 2011″, are in the possession of one, wait for it, Tiny Tony DeLuca, head of the Office of Labor Law Enforcement.
‘Bulo’s Best Tunes of 2011
Next week, 2011’s M(ost) V(aluable) to the P(rogressive) Cause list will be jointly and simultaneously unveiled here at Delaware Liberal and on the Al Mascitti Show on WDEL 1150-AM. Still time for last minute nominations. For now, I have sifted, listened, and relistened to my faves from this year, and it’s time for my list […]
More Clueless: Tom Carper or Evan Queitsch? YOU Decide.
Is it a Democratic Senator who is merely Bill Roth with lousier constituent services, or is it Evan Quetsch, who thinks the University of Delaware is a branch of government.
NFL To Welcome Another Tax Cheat to the Robber Baron Club
The Jacksonville Jaguars are being sold. Long-time owner Wayne Weaver is selling his franchise to one Shahid Khan, should NFL owners approve. Who is Shahid Khan? Well, he tried to buy the St. Louis Rams a couple of years back after Georgia Frontiere died, but it turns out that he was a huge tax cheat.
