“Dems in Crisis” Narratives Running Rampant, Natch

Phillies great Mike Schmidt described playing in Philadelphia as experiencing "the thrill of victory and the agony of reading about it the next day." As a proud Democrat, I can relate to that sentiment. Republicans are always in attack mode and the media is always eager to internalize every GOP attack and enshrine every conservative talking point as unassailable conventional wisdom. In turn, Dem "moderates" "strategists" and "consultants" are always eager to rush to show how much they agree with the GOP talking points. So is this morning's biggest threat to the Republic Trump and his half-assed coup? Is it the worsening pandemic? No. Of course not. It is AOC. It is the term "Defund the Police"

President-Elect Biden Addresses the Nation and World on a Great Night for Wilmington

There will be time enough for examining the new political terrain in Delaware, but for now I'm just going to relax and enjoy the moment. We watched the speeches and fireworks/drones from the Outlets parking lot. It was wonderful. Wilmington looked awesome. The vibe was great.
Folks, the people of this nation have spoken. They have delivered us a clear victory. A convincing victory. A victory for we, the people. We won with the most votes ever cast on a presidential ticket in the history of the nation: 74 million. Well, I must admit it surprised me. Tonight, we are seeing all over this nation, all cities and all parts of the country, indeed across the world, an outpouring of joy, of hope, renewed faith in tomorrow to bring a better day. And I’m humbled by the trust and confidence you have placed in me. I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide, but unify. Who doesn’t see red states and blue states, only sees the United States.

Next Generation of Progressive Leadership Takes Over DE Senate

Delaware Senate Democrats selected new leadership ahead of the 151st General Assembly. The 14-member Majority Caucus chose Sen. Dave Sokola as President Pro Tempore, Sen. Bryan Townsend as Senate Majority Leader and Sen. Elizabeth "Tizzy" Lockman as Senate Majority Whip. The new legislative session will begin on January 12, 2021.
Nobody needs Democrats who actively frustrate the expressed will of the voters. When voters elect Democrats, they expect progress, not excuses.

That’s not how that works.

A theme of Republicanism is a showy, prideful ignorance about how things actually work. Elections, climate change, social security, on and on. . It is more pronounced under Trump, but it has always been there.

Well…?

Voters did some good here in Delaware. There is that. Congratulations to Sarah, Kyle, Spiros, Marie, Larry, Rae, Krista, Madinah & Eric. We are a better state this morning. To others that worked hard but fell short. Thank you. Not winning is sad, but not trying is tragic. Nationally...I allowed myself to believe that Biden's unity message could break through America's carapace of willful ignorance. So much for that. Biden can still win, but he'll win the Presidency of a country wrecked by stupidity and greed. Huzzah!

What (else) is on the ballot?

Whatever happens America will be a will be a very different country on Wednesday. It will be a country that looked into the abyss and said "no thanks" or one that looked in the abyss and said "why not?" Also... Economics: Several states will consider ballot initiatives intended to reduce economic inequality, including: a measure to establish a $15 minimum wage in Florida; a step toward a more progressive income tax in Illinois; higher taxes on the affluent in Arizona; and property taxes on businesses in California. Puerto Rico statehood: American citizens in the territory will vote in a non-binding initiative to signal whether they want the island to become a state. If it passes, a future Congress is more likely to add two new states — Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. Justice Democrats: They've endorsed five House candidates trying to win election for the first time. Perhaps the most intriguing: Kara Eastman, who’s running in a swing district in Nebraska. The ability of Uber and Lyft to take advantage of employees:. "Gig economy" companies are backing an initiative that would allow them to continue paying their drivers as independent contractors rather than employees, saying it’s vital to the business model. Many labor unions oppose the measure, saying it would prevent drivers from earning a living wage. Ranked-choice voting: Voters in Alaska, Massachusetts and a handful of cities will decide whether to adopt ranked-choice voting, which makes it easier to vote third party without undermining a major-party candidate. Currently, only Maine uses the system statewide. Marijuana/Shroom Legalization: Arizona, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey and South Dakota will consider versions of marijuana legalization, while Oregon and Washington, D.C., will vote on whether to ease restrictions on mushrooms.

Rounding the Coroner

With with 231K dead Americans, that Trump has any kind of shot of winning ANY states goes to show what a truly fucked up shithole country we've become. Digging out…
