Why does John Carney hate pedestrians?

Among civilized states – Delaware has the highest rate of pedestrian fatalities

“Your blogging licensing and registration, please”

I hope this Desantis style “freedom” doesn’t come to Delaware.  I’d hate to have to register with the state just to continue pointing out that Chris Coons is a corporate lickspittle, and Lisa Blunt Rochester keeps two horseshoe crabs as pets.

Florida Sen. Jason Brodeur (R-Lake Mary) wants bloggers who write about Gov. Ron DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody, and other members of the Florida executive cabinet or legislature to register with the state or face fines.

Brodeur’s proposal, Senate Bill 1316: Information Dissemination, would require any blogger writing about government officials to register with the Florida Office of Legislative Services or the Commission on Ethics.

In the bill, Brodeur wrote that those who write “an article, a story, or a series of stories,” about “the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, a Cabinet officer, or any member of the Legislature,” and receives or will receive payment for doing so, must register with state offices within five days after the publication of an article that mentions an elected state official.

If another blog post is added to a blog, the blogger would then be required to submit monthly reports on the 10th of each month with the appropriate state office. They would not have to submit a report on months when no content is published.

On a related note – how is it that the media can only use the term “over playing their hand” when a Democrat wants to use elective office for something?  It seems no matter what Republicans propose, their hands can never be overplayed.

The American conservative movement now makes sense to me

(What we think of as the American conservative movement is basically the accretion of tactics) designed to corral the easily fleeceable multitudes all in one place—and create in them a mindset that makes it impossible for them discern where the ideological con ends and the money con begins.

Republicans do know how to keep party message disciple.

A censure by the Republican Party of Texas would underline how the two-term congressman’s willingness to break with conservatives on key issues during his short time in office has caused GOP activists and some colleagues alike to bristle.

And lo, the answer came forth clear…

Whan that new poll by Mason-Dixon fair
Did make its way unto the air
Conducted by the Fairness Campaign bright
A pro-LGBTQ rights group with might

The question posed did bring to light
A topic of great moral right
Should state leaders have the power
To overrule parents’ wishes hour by hour?

And lo, the answer came forth clear
From seventy-one percent without fear
Nay, say they, such laws should not exist
For parents’ wishes should always persist

In matters of their children’s lives
The power should rest in their hives
For who can know a child’s heart
Better than those who from birth did impart?

So let it be known throughout the land
That parents’ wishes should remain grand
And state leaders should not interfere
In matters of their children dear.

Dear ChatGpt – In the style of Chaucer, can you write a about A new Mason-Dixon poll by the Fairness Campaign, that showed 71% of respondents oppose laws letting state leaders overrule parents’ wishes?

Poll Results – This Week’s Poll: Who do you want to be Delaware’s next Lt Governor?

As to the question  “Which issue should Bethany Hall Long pick to be her signature issue in the upcoming gubernatorial race?”

It was a dead heat with “Access to healthcare for women in post Roe Delaware (24%)” barely edging out  “Continuing the work of the Carney admin (21%)” and “Addressing the wanton lawlessness of DE Cops through LEBOR reform (23%)”.

All of those are funny to me. “Addressing the wanton lawlessness of DE Cops through LEBOR reform” is perhaps the most hilarious.  This has less than zero percent chance of being a concern of the possible Hall-Long administration.   But it reminds me… Pete wants a special license plate for cops.  I haven’t followed it closely, but what does the plate commemorate?

LEOBOR Today, LEOBOR tomorrow, LEOBOR forever! ?

Onward to this week’s

The floor is open and please note the wording is: Who do you WANT to be the next Lt Gov.   So all you Tabatha fans, this is your moment.

The Delaware Court of Chancery is a bunch of milquetoast pussies who will never bop the fuck out Fox News like it needs bopping.  (And I know that all you milquetoast pussies read this blog, so now I’ve called you milquetoast pussies to your face twice, so you basically have to bop the fuck out of Fox News.  Checkmate, motherfuckers!!)

Fox News and its parent company face serious threats to their financial and reputational health from a blockbuster defamation lawsuit tied to coverage of the 2020 election that legal experts believe has a solid chance of succeeding.

Dominion Voting Systems, which brought the $1.6 billion suit, is a voting technology provider that argues Fox News defamed it by knowingly repeating falsehoods from former President Trump and his aides and allies that Dominion’s services were used to fraudulently elect Joe Biden to the White House.

32% of people are goddam idiots

32% is a stunningly predictable percentage of how many people are total dumb-fucks.   What percentage of people think Trump should be President? 32%  What percentage of people had a positive take on Bush as the Iraq war was revealed to be the cluster-fuck of the century? 32%   What percentage of Britons still think Brexit was the right call?  32%

  • In the latest YouGov poll last week, 53% said the U.K. was wrong to leave the European Union, versus 32% who still believed it was the right call.
  • Anand Menon, director of the U.K. in a Changing Europe initiative, told CNBC that there were two key shifts in the public’s attitudes towards Brexit.

Someone got through to Trump and convinced him that he needed to turn away from whining about the last election and come up with an upbeat and forward looking campaign message.  So just befor CPAC he rolled out “flying cars” and hellish sounding MAGA enclaves.

Former President Donald Trump on Friday will reportedly unveil a new plan to use federal lands to create what he will describe as “freedom cities” that will be filled with flying cars.

According to Politico, Trump will announce a design contest for up to 10 different “freedom cities” that also will include “an investment in the development of vertical-takeoff-and-landing vehicles; the creation of ‘hives of industry’ sparked by cutting off imports from China; and a population surge sparked by ‘baby bonuses’ to encourage would-be-parents to get on with procreation.”

The outlandish proposal comes as Trump has struggled to set out a positive vision for the future of the United States that does not revolve around false claims that the 2020 election was “rigged” against him.

In the video, Trump will compare his vision of futuristic cities to former President Dwight Eisenhower’s plan to create an interstate highway system, although building a flying-car paradise will undoubtedly be more expensive than that project.

Highlands Bunker – The Truth Falls Out (w/ Syl Woolford)

Just listening to REV read from Eslanda Goode Robeson’s retelling of her HUAC testimony is well worth the price of admission.

Local historian Syl Woolford joins Rob in the bunker to talk about his research into Paul Robseon, how it relates to the present day, and the three times he was kicked out of the Iron Hill Museum.

Show Notes:

Trump seals the deal at CPAC

Paul Campos at LGM watched Trump’s CPAC speech:

I’m watching Donald Trump doing his improv shtick at CPAC right now — it’s on CSPAN — and if you think somebody else has a chance to win the GOP presidential nomination in 2024 I suggest you think about it again.

You can’t out-Trump Trump, and you sure as hell can’t win the Republican nomination by renouncing him.

Indicting him, should that happen, won’t make any difference.

The main theme is that corrupt anti-American prosecutors are trying to destroy him, but he’s too tough, and his supporters are too loyal, for this to work.

“If they win, we no longer have a country.”

“I am your warrior; I am your justice; and for those who have been wronged and betrayed, I am your retribution. I will wholly eliminate the deep state.” [Crowd goes wild].

“Joe Biden is a criminal, and nothing ever seems to happen to him.”

“I was getting calls from radical left people about what a great job we were doing, because we had the greatest economy in history. Then we had the China virus.”

OK you get the idea.

A lot of people have convinced themselves that Trump is somehow fading away, and is no longer the fundamental threat to the continuance of liberal democracy in this country.

Isn’t it pretty to think so?

Spot the racism

Here are two headlines about the same story. One is from Fox News and one is from WHYY.  It will take a keen eye, but see if you can spot the racism.

Here are some of the changes:

  • Starting next year, the exam will be given twice annually — in February and July.
  • The “cut” or passing score for the exam of 200 multiple choice questions will be reduced from 145 to 143.
  • The number of essays will be cut from eight to four, and the number of areas of the law eligible for essays reduced from 14 to 10.

In addition to modifying the examination, the high court also:

  • Reduced clerkship requirement from 21 weeks to 12 weeks.
  • Cut the number of legal proceedings potential lawyers must attend from a mandatory list of 25 items to 18 out of 30 potential items.
  • Reduced the late application fee for law school grads and attorneys admitted in other states.

The denial dog that never barked

Fox News has fully exposed itself as the for profit propaganda arm of the GOP.  Democrats are now free to stop pretending that it is “news” in a traditional sense.(Yes – I’m looking at you, Coonsie)  Even members of the media fraternity are now saying that Fox News propaganda arm of the GOP.  But here is the interesting thing – nobody in the GOP or at Fox News denies it. They are candid – Fox News isn’t a news service, its a propaganda service.

No defenders of Fox have risen and attempted to make the case that Fox News is legitimate news.  Steve Bannon simply says that they are part of the GOP and a part that should be be doing a better job electing Republicans.

Welcome to DelaWOKE – MAGA owned firms wondering when whites will ever get a fair shake in this state as Delaware moves to increase diversity in state-funded construction projects

Delaware using pilot studies to increase diversity in state-funded construction projects

A 2022 study commissioned by the state found a lack of diversity amongst the vendors Delaware contracts with to provide goods, services and skilled labor. It said non-minority, non-women-owned businesses accounted for almost all of the vendors the state uses when conducting state business. This disparity is especially pronounced in construction and construction-related services.

A closer look at the documented disparity shows that Hispanic and Black-owned construction firms represent a little more than 2% of the vendors the state contracts with for construction services with no Black-owned firms providing construction-related services.

Expand Social Security Benefits by $2,400 a year & fully fund the program through 2095

Now that… (above) is something Democrats could run on and win,  if they only had the guts to do it. Sure they’d have moderate ass-wipes like Coons and Kaine fretting and moaning about it, but fuck those guys.

And by the way, I know I tend to view “policy” through the lens of “strategy” but even from a pure policy perspective,  getting the wealthy to pay their fair share will help people and help heal the country. Simply put –  this is GREAT policy.

At a time when nearly half of older Americans have no retirement savings and almost fifty percent of our nation’s seniors are trying to survive on an income of less than $25,000 a year — we need to strengthen and expand Social Security, not cut it.

For generations, Social Security has safeguarded tens of millions of people from destitution. Not just people over the age of 65, but also millions of people — young and old — with disabilities, and children who have lost, or don’t have a working parent.

It’s our nation’s most powerful anti-poverty program, and yet every year, Republicans threaten to strike it down in order to — you guessed it — bankroll tax cuts for the rich.

Recently though, Senator Bernie Sanders introduced legislation to expand benefits by $2,400 a year and fully fund the program through 2095 by getting the wealthy to pay their fair share.

Add your name as a grassroots co-sponsor of the Social Security Expansion Act of 2023 to ensure every senior in the U.S. can retire with the dignity that they deserve, and every person with a disability, or child without a working parent can live with the security they need.

Right now, because of an income cap set in 1983 on Social Security contributions, even CEOs and billionaires only pay taxes on their first $160,000 of income.

Meanwhile, teachers, nurses, and other workers who make less than that are paying taxes on 100% of their income.

How is it in any way fair that somebody making millions or even billions of dollars a year is contributing the exact same amount into Social Security as somebody making $160,000 a year?

Let’s scrap the cap and require millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share into Social Security.

Add your name now to become a grassroots co-sponsor of the Social Security Expansion Act of 2023 and stand alongside Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and other Democratic lawmakers demanding our most successful anti-poverty program is expanded and protected for generations to come.
