There is this crazy argument floating around that the bankers and money managers who drove the economy off a cliff (then got paid for it) should be investigated. There is the crazy antiquated notion out there that even rich people who indulge in criminal behavior should be investigated, arrested, come to trial, be judged, and face punishment. One of the people who is pushing that quaint notion is our own AG, Beau Biden.

Civilization is (was?) Awesome

Yesterday I had to drop off some refuse at DSWA's Pine Tree Corner transfer station and the whole experience gave me a warm feeling about civilization and how nice it is to live in a civilized society. As I paid my meager $8.00 for the drop off, I started to think about how I will one day bounce my grandchildren on my knee and they will marvel at my stories about life in America prior to the Tea Party takeover.

The Sing Off on NBC is just a delightful change of pace. Usually I hate the judges comments in these types of shows, but Benfolds and Shawn Stockman usually have pretty good comments and I think Sarah Bareilles will be focused on the music. Bonus: This year we have blue hens to cheer for.

Long time readers know that my big problem with Donovan McNubbins was that he was a "no heart chump." What do I mean by that? It is complicated, but to be concise, I'd say that "no heart chump" means someone who is ambivalent about winning.

Of all the major college sports, football is the most momentum based. A losing team wilts under the weight of its own low expectations, and a winning team picks up steam as the season unfolds. A wining team is like a spinning fly wheel, with each rotation multiplying the torque or some shit like that. I'm not sure, I'm no physicist. In fact, I can barely spell physicist. (My first three attempts at spelling that word confounded my poor overburden spell checker and cause it to suggest that I was trying to spell the word "psychotic." True story.) BUT I DO KNOW THIS....

That woman standing there by that shitty house and beat-up truck on the dirt road in Mississippi leading to whatever polluting plant is behind her probably doesn't give a goddamn about what Ben Bernanke has said at any point in his life. She probably doesn't give a goddamn about whether or not certain kinds of income are taxed as capital gains. She more than likely gives a damn about feeding those kids. She more than likely gives a damn about keeping them and herself healthy. She more than likely wants them to have a future, probably one beyond mud and filth.
