Reebok has an Elizabeth Warren shirt. This is an interesting development, as big national brands are notoriously skittish when it comes to weighing in on the politics of the day.

Tom Carper, Wall Street’s Tom Hagen

This morning on my Facebook feed had a link for Tell Sen. Tom Carper To Stand with Elizabeth Warren and Consumers, not Donald Trump and Wall Street. This is about changing the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau into a bipartisan commission instead of an independent director lead bureau. It looks like this tactic has been dropped. When bankers met with Democrats, Tom Carper was there with his hand out and his banking mouthpiece running at full steam.

At least one Democrat, Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware, has said publicly that he’s open to the commission idea.

“I’ve been interested in exploring the idea of a commission-like approach,” Carper said in an interview Tuesday. “This is one of these deals we should have open hearings on, discuss and debate it, hear from all sides and then make an informed decision.”

Carper, who represents a blue state where the financial services industry has substantial influence, does not sit on the Senate Banking Committee, but he has long been open to the idea of a five-member commission. When CFPB Director Richard Cordray’s nomination was before the Senate in 2011, Carper said: “We may have to look at the idea of a commission-based structure, and I would love to sit down with my colleagues from the other side of the aisle and debate this issue.”

Oh, for fuck’s sake. We all need to understand that Tom Carper will always side with Wall Street while gleefully screwing over the people of Delaware. We need to squash the illusion that Carper is in anyway a liberal. If he takes a liberal position, he got there by accident. Carper must be primaried.

JFC Looking at Medicaid Options

The Republican congress is scattershot. The Republican president is temperamental. This is what the Joint Finance Committee has to deal with when looking a repeal of the Affordable Care Act and its repercussions in the state.

Projected growth in Medicaid spending is modest compared to years past, at $13.3 million for fiscal year 2018. In the current year, Delaware will pay about $760 million for its share of the program.

In an effort to reduce future costs, his fellow co-chair, Rep. Melanie George Smith (D-Bear), said Delaware could look into requiring adults on Medicaid to take steps toward better long-term health in exchange for added benefits.

Such a change would need approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Is Tom Carper a Lizard Person?

After Tom Carper voted no on confirming the Republican racist Attorney General, Carper rushed up the aisle to hug him. This is not normal. This is what Lizard People do. The only explanation then is that Tom Carper is a lizard person.

From The Hill:

A handful of Democratic senators — including Manchin, Sen. Joe Donnelly (Ind.) and Bob Menendez (N.J.) — went over and shook Sessions’s hand after the vote. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), who didn’t support Sessions, hugged him on the Senate floor.

Here’s the video from C-SPAN. I believe that this is Carper we see rushing up the aisle in the bottom right of the screen to embrace the Republican attorney general in what can only be described as some sort of reptilian courtship ritual.

Calling a Fascist, Loofa-Faced, Shit-Gibbon a Fascist, Loofa-Faced, Shit-Gibbon

We here at Delaware Liberal have been accused of demanding too much from our Democratic representatives in Dover and DC, of wanting these Dems to have a spine when it matters. The bar is seriously low and half the time, these weak-kneed Democrats cannot even reach that.

Now sadly, we have to look across our border to see a state senator in Wayne, Pennsylvania display what it means to be a Democrat.

Hey @realDonaldTrump I oppose civil asset forfeiture too! Why don't you try to destroy my career you fascist, loofa-faced, shit-gibbon!

— Daylin Leach (@daylinleach) February 7, 2017

The best part is that he is standing by his tweet.

Leach’s spokesperson, Steve Hoenstine, said in a statement the senator’s post was inspired by justified anger:

“President Trump blithely talked about destroying the career of a man who disagreed with Trump on a policy issue. Then Trump laughed about it, which is just what you’d expect from someone who gets his kicks firing people on national television. Trump just continues to undermine democratic norms, America’s system of checks and balances, and the general principle of human decency. Senator Leach is mad as hell about it, as you can see from his tweet.”

Cutbacks Start in New Castle County

New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer is taking steps to cut back on spending. Unlike his counterparts in state government, Meyer currently is not looking at program cutbacks.

On Tuesday, New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer announced his administration will partially freeze hiring, limit overtime, suspend out-of-state travel for government employees, reduce executive office expenses and end the practice of allowing government employees to “cash out” unused vacation time.

Meyer said “that the changes will not cover the anticipated deficit and that further cost reductions are being considered.” Hopefully, he’ll look at some tax increases to cover much-needed programs.
