Republicans Can’t Govern

Filed in National by on November 30, 2012 28 Comments

Republicans are all about big, brave (and vague) talk on the campaign trail, but once they get into office and have to govern they become whiny babies. President Obama has put a plan on the table. Unsurprisingly, Republicans don’t like it. So, what do Republicans do? Counter with a different plan? Nope – because that would actually require doing work and putting their big, bad and vague campaign talk into written word.

What they’re asking for is President Obama to negotiate with himself, and that ain’t happening.

Perhaps the key lesson the White House took from the last couple of years is this: Don’t negotiate with yourself. If Republicans want to cut Medicare, let them propose the cuts. If they want to raise revenue through tax reform, let them identify the deductions. If they want deeper cuts in discretionary spending, let them settle on a number. And, above all, if they don’t like the White House’s preferred policies, let them propose their own. That way, if the White House eventually does give in and agree to some of their demands, Republicans will feel like they got one over on the president. A compromise isn’t measured by what you offer, it’s measured by what the other side feels they made you concede.

The GOP is right: This isn’t a serious proposal. But it’s not evidence that Obama isn’t serious. He’s very serious about not negotiating with himself, and his opening bid proves it. Now that they’ve leaked his initial offer, the next question is obvious: What’s their offer?

The Deliberate Destruction Of Public Education

Filed in Delaware, National by on November 29, 2012 39 Comments

In Michigan, Bloomfield Hills School District’s superintendent, Rob Glass, has written a letter and posted it on his District’s website.  In all my years on the education front, I have never seen such a direct and urgent letter from a superintendent.  Everyone needs to read this, because what he’s talking about has happened, and probably […]

Pay Attention To What Republicans Do, Not What They Say

Since losing the election, Republicans are trying to employ the “I have a black/brown friend with a vagina” strategy.  Every time I turn on the television or surf the net I’m bombarded with Republican politicians and pundits performing mea culpas over their past behavior.  But their words ring hollow when you look at their actions.

Take a look at this picture ….

Happy Thanksgiving – Let’s Cook!

Filed in Delaware by on November 22, 2012 10 Comments

I have some time before the teenagers wake up, so I thought I’d try and put up a Thanksgiving foodie thread!  This year I’m trying some new recipes, along with my son’s favorites – since he just returned home from college and deserves some special treatment!

I’m sticking with Turkey as the main course, but having some fun with the side dishes.

Romney 100% Believes His 47% Comment

Filed in National by on November 15, 2012 14 Comments

Here’s Mitt Romney being a jerk and a sore loser and doing his best to further divide the country:

Saying that he and his team still felt “troubled” by his loss to President Obama, Mitt Romney on Wednesday attributed his defeat in part to what he called big policy “gifts” that the president had bestowed on loyal Democratic constituencies, including young voters, African-Americans and Hispanics.

May I suggest that one of the main reasons Mr. Romney lost was due to comments like these, along with a stunning contempt for most people?

Bobby Jindal countered Mitt’s sour grapes temper tantrum by basically saying, “So long, loser. Don’t let the door hit you on the ass…”

2012 Was The Year Of The Woman

Filed in Delaware, National by on November 9, 2012 31 Comments

Women made up 53% of the electorate this year and Republicans failed spectacularly, again, at basic math.  My guess is that they’ll keep on failing, choosing to focus on Hispanics while ignoring that Hispanic women are part of that whopping 53%.  So are African American women and Asian women – which means that women are the biggest voter demographic Republicans need to win an election.

Republicans are frighteningly out of touch with women who handed the election to President Obama.  They refused to accept, and even mocked – I’m looking at you, Joe Scarborough – that women’s reproductive rights were a serious economic concern.  They dismissed rape in the way one dismisses a hangnail.  And they lost.  Big time.

Republicans Have A BIG Problem

Filed in National by on November 8, 2012 20 Comments

Right now Republicans are blaming Chris Christie, Hurricane Sandy, Mitt Romney, unreasonable gay people, slutty women, “biased” Hispanics, effeminate, urban, highly educated white guys, Evangelicals who didn’t show up, people who voted 3rd party and, of course, African Americans who should vote Republican, because, you know… Lincoln!

But the “Because I Said So!” party has a big problem, and I don’t see how they solve it.  Yes, there have been mumblings about how the GOP has to tap into the groups I’ve listed about, but the question is how?

Florida’s Incompetence Disenfranchised Its Voters In More Ways Than One

I’m sticking with my opinion that the State of Florida should lose the right to run its own elections until they can prove they can do it right.  Their incompetence is stunning.
