“What Could Go Wrong?”

Talk about looking for trouble.

An armed Christian organization, Right Wing Extreme, will protect a church that is planning to host an “International Burn a Quran Day” on September 11, the church’s pastor said Tuesday.

…Dove World Outreach Center Pastor Terry Jones has accepted the support of Right Wing Extreme, which he said offered to come to the church with between 500 and 2,000 men on September 11. He described the organization as an armed civilian militia group.

…[I]n a statement sent to CNN by the Dove World Outreach Center, Right Wing Extreme founder Shannon Carson said: ”We fully support Dove World Outreach Center and its efforts to put an end to the notion that Islam is a peaceful religion. Islam is a violent cult with the goal of world domination.”

Truly, they are spoiling for a fight.  Geez, the one thing George W. Bush did, that I completely agreed with, was keeping a lid on this anti-Muslim crap.  Too bad there aren’t any adults left in the GOP.   And it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see where this is heading.  Somebody – most likely an innocent – is going to get hurt.  And when that happens Conservatives will trot out the “lone wolf” defense.  They are quite comfortable blaming all Muslims for the acts of a few, but when it comes to the extremists in their midst… why, it’s outrageous to lump them all together.

Check out the video below.  The gentlemen representing Islam sounds like the “real” American.  Terry Jones sounds like the Taliban.  He’s also guilty of doing exactly what he’s accusing Muslims of doing – trying to turn America into a theocracy.

Seriously, the threat to our country isn’t coming from Islam.  It’s coming from within.

The Republican Dream

They really need to own this:

Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas) on Sunday said lawmakers who have not signed onto Rep. Paul Ryan’s plan to balance the budget lacked “courage” and could be targeted by the conservative tea party movement as a result.

Armey’s comments on NBC’s “Meet the Press” came just moments after Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) sidestepped a question about Ryan’s plan, which looks to balance the budget by reinventing slimmer versions of Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and the tax code…. […]

“All Paul Ryan is saying is let Social Security be voluntary, let Medicare be voluntary,” Armey said. “The fact that he only has 13 co-sponsors is a big reason why our folks are agitated against the Republicans as well as the Democrats — the difference between being a co-sponsor of Ryan or not is a thing called courage.”

Steve Benen pushes the message home:

To this extent, Armey raises a reasonable argument: if Paul is putting on paper what Republicans really believe, why don’t they have the courage of their convictions? Why not have the guts to endorse a budget plan that reflects their actual thinking?

Armey and Ryan think the radical roadmap should be part of the debate — and oddly enough, I couldn’t agree more. Are Republicans on board with Ryan’s roadmap or not? Is his plan a reflection of what GOP candidates would do with their majority? Shouldn’t voters have a chance to hear from Republicans about this before there’s an election?

I, too, couldn’t agree more.  Every Republican needs to be asked if they support Rep. Paul Ryan’s plan – and they need to answer.

Meanwhile, in the most Republican County in California Conservatives may get the chance to live (or perish) by their principles…

Residents in Modoc County, in the remote northeastern corner of California, will soon vote on whether to tax themselves to save their local hospital.

The county has gone broke trying to keep the hospital open, and a fractious debate has erupted in this proudly conservative frontier community over the best way forward… [T]he county hospital in Alturas– even with its limited services– is a lifeline to the people who live here. The closest full-service hospitals are hours away, and the nearby medical centers over the mountains are often unreachable during winter storms.

…The hospital is not just a lifeline– it’s an economic engine, even if it is just sputtering along. Like many rural hospitals, Modoc Medical Center is the largest employer in town, and people here worry what will happen if it closes.

Wonder how long Modoc County lasts if the hospital closes.  Ladies and gentlemen, may I present America’s next Ghost Town – courtesy of the GOP ideology.

Connect The Dots On The New GOP Terror Babies

First, watch this video with Anderson Cooper to get a big dose of the new Republican Party.   Conspiracy theories rule, facts/evidence are not necessary, and when questioned just keep talking like a crazy person.  I’m beginning to think that Dems should use all these clips as campaign ads.

Now, let’s connect the dots.  This is the evolution of birtherism.  Be prepared for the next step – Terror babies have always existed.  Obama is a terror baby!

BTW, I just added a “Terror Baby” tag, because I have a feeling we’ll be using it.  Very sad.

Reality TV Freak Show

Forget Kate Plus Eight Minus One.  There’s a new game in town and it’s called If We Keep Having Babies Maybe We Won’t Get Canceled.

But now the couple – who only recently brought baby Josie home after being hospitalized for six months as she recovered from a perforated bowel and rare digestive problems – say they are ready to consider a 20th child.

The Duggars show, 19 and Counting (previously 18 and counting), airs on TLC – and shame on TLC and their carnival freak show programming.  But here’s the part that makes me see red:

Similarly daunting are the very real medical risks Michelle could face with another pregnancy – particularly a return of preeclampsia, which can lead to a stroke or prove fatal. But despite the risk – and intense criticism – the pair vow to stick to their beliefs.

Having another baby isn’t about convictions, it’s about ratings.  But what I find appalling is what sort of mother would risk leaving her other 19 children motherless?  When I was on the way to the hospital to have my second child I remember being so afraid that something would happen to me.  For nine months I worried (pregnant mothers tend to worry) about the baby, but when I kissed my three year old good-bye I was struck with a new fear.  In the blink of an eye my survival became an overwhelming concern.  I wanted to be around to raise my children.  Why this isn’t the Duggars’ concern boggles the mind.

Phyllis Schlafly Is Pro-Life… Sorta

I think she’s pro-life as long as the mother vows to raise the child to vote conservative.

“One of the things Obama’s been doing is deliberately trying to increase the percentage of our population that is dependent on government…For example, do you know what was the second biggest demographic group that voted for Obama? Obviously the blacks were the biggest demographic, yall know what was the second biggest?  Unmarried women.  70% of unmarried women voted for Obama.  And this is because when you kick your husband out, you’ve got to have Big Brother Government to be your provider.  And they know that. They’ve admitted it.  And they have all kinds of bills to continue to subsidize illegitimacy, which is now nationwide, running at 41%.  1.7 million babies were born in our country illegitimately last year. The Obama administration wants to continue to subsidize this group because they know they are Democratic votes.  Republicans never could have given the amount of money they are going to get. And as Ronald Reagan said, if you subsidize something you are going to get more of it, and if you tax it you’re going to get less of it.  [Applause]

Can’t wait until they revive the term bastard.

She’s Asking For It

Men’s Health list the top 10 signs to look for when trying to pick up women looking for sex.  Bet there will be an app for this soon.  Let’s examine part of the list…

Chatting Up The Bartender
A flirtatious woman can hardly contain herself. She won’t let a male waiter or bartender take her order without flashing a smile and saying something silly, like, “What can you make me that would be really yummy?”

Now see, my first rule would be to avoid anyone who uses the word yummy.  Also, why would any man think that a woman flirting with another man is interested in him?

Game Playing
Darts, pool, pinball—women know this makes them easier to approach. That’s why they do it. It’s easy to get a man’s attention when you’re about to jab him in the ribs with a pool cue.
Ladies, did you get that?  The only reason women play these games is to get a man’s attention.
Her Drink is Big, Frozen and Blue
I did not make that up.  Everyone starting to get the theme of this article?
She’s a Chatterbox
If she leans forward when you’re talking or asks you endless questions, the only way to shut her up is to kiss her.
The only way to shut her up is to kiss her?  There is so much wrong with this statement I’m not sure where to begin.
She’s Wearing Thigh-High Stockings
Women only wear sexy underthings when they’re expecting a man to see them. If she’s wearing a thong, she’s trying to avoid panty lines, but sex is on her mind, too. Anything black, red, pink, leopard print, or lace equals “I want you.”
Is this guy for real?  Let’s sum it up this way…
  • So… if a woman is flirting with another guy she really wants to have sex with you.
  • If she’s playing darts or pool she really wants to have sex with you – even if you’re not the person she’s playing darts or pool with.
  • If she’s drinking a big, blue frozen drink she wants to have sex with you.
  • If she asks you questions… kiss her to shut her up and she’ll want to have sex with you.
  • If she’s wearing sexy underthings they have nothing to do with her preference and comfort she simply wants to have sex with you.
Anyone else find these “signs” disturbingly similar to a rapist’s defense?  Yes, I did shudder when I typed that, but this entire article from Men’s Health could be titled “She was asking for it.”  And while the author dances around the “have sex” and “have sex with you” comments his opening line is quite disturbing.
Some women go out looking for sex. Here’s how to find them and make it happen.
Find them and make it happen.

Tea Party Denies Claims Of Racism And Then Writes A Letter

Mark Williams, Tea Party Express Chairman, puts pen to paper to prove the Tea Party isn’t racist, and ends up proving they are.  Simply stunning.

Dear Mr. Lincoln

We Colored People have taken a vote and decided that we don’t cotton to that whole emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real, think for ourselves, and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to ask of us Colored People and we demand that it stop!

In fact we held a big meeting and took a vote in Kansas City this week. We voted to condemn a political revival of that old abolitionist spirit called the ‘tea party movement’.

The tea party position to “end the bailouts” for example is just silly. Bailouts are just big money welfare and isn’t that what we want all Coloreds to strive for? What kind of racist would want to end big money welfare? What they need to do is start handing the bail outs directly to us coloreds! Of course, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is the only responsible party that should be granted the right to disperse the funds.

And the ridiculous idea of “reduce[ing] the size and intrusiveness of government.” What kind of massa would ever not want to control my life? As Coloreds we must have somebody care for us otherwise we would be on our own, have to think for ourselves and make decisions!

The racist tea parties also demand that the government “stop the out of control spending.” Again, they directly target Colored People. That means we Colored People would have to compete for jobs like everybody else and that is just not right.

Perhaps the most racist point of all in the tea parties is their demand that government “stop raising our taxes.” That is outrageous! How will we Colored People ever get a wide screen TV in every room if non-coloreds get to keep what they earn? Totally racist! The tea party expects coloreds to be productive members of society?

Mr. Lincoln, you were the greatest racist ever. We had a great gig. Three squares, room and board, all our decisions made by the massa in the house. Please repeal the 13th and 14th Amendments and let us get back to where we belong.

Sincerely

Precious Ben Jealous, Tom’s Nephew National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Head Colored Person

Have at it.  I’m speechless.

Conservatives Come Out Against Birth Control – Guess They’re Okay With Teen Pregnancy And Abortion

We’ve always known the Conservative stance on sex had more to do with controling women than with preventing unwanted pregnancy and abortion.  And now they’ve proved it once again.

Amanda sums it up:

In a common sense world, there would be no controversy over including contraception in the slate of preventive services that the federal government will soon require insurance companies to offer at no cost to their customers.  Fairness alone should justify it, but there’s also the fact that it’s universally agreed that the results of not using contraception—unwanted pregnancy, abortion, teenage pregnancy—are best avoided.  But the Heritage Foundation and the National Abstinence Education Association are demanding that the federal government make an exception in the new rules for contraception.  As usual, I’m forced to think that perhaps the anti-choice movement actually prefers a high unwanted pregnancy rate, and therefore a high abortion rate, since they work so hard to preserve it.

Thankfully, the majority of Americans are a-okay with contraception.

Eighty percent of Americans say pharmacists should be required to dispense birth control regardless of their own opinions on the morality of premarital or non-reproductive sex. Three-quarters of American Catholics disagree with their Church’s anti-contraception policy. A recent survey of evangelical leaders—the family values crowd—found that 90 percent of them consider hormonal birth control and condoms “morally acceptable.”

Even the business community is on board.

The business community, too, is enthusiastic. A new report from the National Business Group on Health found that most companies would save money in the long run by providing their employees with co-pay-free birth control.

Of course, we are still #1 in certain areas…

Reproductive-rights advocates are openly lobbying the Obama administration to enact the birth control changes quickly, citing the United States’ high rates of teenage and unintended pregnancy—the highest in the developed world.

Now there’s something to crow about!  I am over halfway through the book, Red Families v. Blue Families, and have reached several conclusions; the main one being that when Conservatives lament the dying of the “traditional family” they have a point – the Red Family model is in big trouble, mainly due to the fact that these kids aren’t practicing abstinence or birth control.  So, in typical Conservative fashion, they want everyone in their sinking boat.

From The Mouths Of The “Big Boys” And “Little Girl”

Here’s a new twist to the victim card.  Sharron Angle says that Harry Reid is “trying to hit the girl.”

“It is also the corruption in Washington, DC that is characterized by Harry Reid, lets-make-a-deal cronyism, politics as usual, and so we’re saying dirty tricks Harry is up to his dirty tricks one more time and he’s just trying to hit the girl,” Angle said on the Alan Stock Show.

“You know, isolate that Sharron Angle, marginalize her and then demonize her,” she said in a separate appearance on the Heidi Harris Show. “And he has been doing that to me and what we need to do is say, ‘you know Harry, it’s not going to do you any good to hit the girl.’”

Spare me.  Also, what adult women refers to herself as a girl.  The kind looking for special treatment.

But Angle’s choice of words is especially relevant given Republicans have cited her gender as one of the many reasons they believe she has a good shot of defeating the Majority Leader. They point out that Reid has never had to face a woman before in a Senate race.

“Yes, Harry is going after the girl. He is attacking her, but that’s part of politics,” Smith added. “In polite society, you don’t attack the girl. We always wondered what would happen with Harry and his nastiness because some people would get upset if he’s mean to a woman.”

Um, okay.  So they think her gender is an advantage because… in polite society, you don’t attack the girl?  Yeah, I noticed how well Republicans lived these principles when it came to Hillary.
