Jason wrote yesterday about the bad news from Astra Zeneca of major layoffs. The NJ provides a story that has Tom Carper telling people that AZ just might have left Delaware all together — as if to imply that this all could have been worse. Which it could have been. Most Irish immigrants worked at the mills lining the Brandywine River and some tributaries. Many worked at Eleutherian Mills near Henry Clay Village, where the DuPont company produced gunpowder. One of the jobs at the powder yard was to grind the saltpeter for production, which was done with this grinding wheel.

Hall-Long outed as gay marriage swing vote

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Wilmington, usually held on the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day, from a few years ago. At the terminus of the parade route is a party held at St. Patrick’s Church, where the church serves beer to hundreds or parade-goers.
