You Can’t Be Both.

Filed in Delaware, National by on February 15, 2013 7 Comments

As I drove out of the Christiana Hilton yesterday and onto the I-95 ramp, I was following a car with a very long and loud bumper sticker that said something to the affect of “If Mary was Pro-Choice, there would be no Christmas” and “Pro-Choice or Catholic. You can’t be both.” Once again, the Anti-Choice brigades have purposefully confused being pro-choice with being pro-abortion and in so doing came up with some unique bumper stickers (unique only in the fact that I have never seen them before).

Well, two can play that assumption game. As someone who is Catholic and who is pro-choice (and yes, I can be both since I have a proper understanding of the word “choice”), I have always assumed that since anti-choice abortion opponents, since they view abortion as murder, then they all must be in favor of imprisoning the doctors, the nurses and the pregnant women who conspire to commit murder. And since the murder involved conspiracy and aggravating factors like the death of a child, then they must be in favor of the death penalty for the doctors, the nurses and the pregnant women. For you can’t call abortion murder and not punish the murderer, right?

Now, deep down, my assumption is correct. The “Pro-Life” extremists do believe this. They do want this. But they know that such a position would backfire and be massively politically unpopular. At least, the smart ones now this.

Iowa State Rep. Rob Bacon (R) appears to not be so smart.

I John Sigler, being a clown and having no irony sensors….

Filed in Delaware, National by on February 13, 2013 3 Comments

The least serious person in Delaware politics, a guy who couldn’t sign up one single decent statewide candidate, projects his unseriousness on the President.

“It’s that time of the year again — when President Obama pretends he’s concerned about the weak economy and the soaring national debt. But the citizens of Delaware have heard enough State of the Union addresses from President Obama to know the truth: he’s not serious. He’s not serious about creating jobs. He’s not serious about deficit reduction. He’s not serious about spending reform.

The doofus tumbles ass backwards into a truth here. He, John Sigler, is sick of hearing the President. He has heard enough. But he is antsy because he knows that he is going to hear a lot more. Mainly because his party is full of nut bags who think sobbing is a legitimate argument, and stamping their feet is evidence. He hasn’t quite made the connection between the GOP’s lack of seriousness and their electoral misfortunes, but you can tell he is groping his way toward the truth.

NCCo Courthouse Shooting Followup

Filed in Delaware by on February 12, 2013 52 Comments

Today’s NJ has a good narrative of what happened at the Courthouse yesterday. They’ve also put up a Storify page, designed to capture the story as it unfolded on Twitter (if you have something to add to this, send it to Holly Norton). I’m not so sure what else will be known about this incident, but I know that lots of people are still talking about this and what it means for our community.

Kinder Morgan Starts Talking

Filed in Delaware by on February 11, 2013 9 Comments

Kinder Morgan is making its proposal to privatize the Port of Wilmington to the Diamond State Port Corporation today. We’ll hear more about this (I hope) in tomorrow’s news, but wanted to take a look at this deal via what we know already. The most recent information has come from a few NJ articles — Deal to lease Port of Wilmington at risk; Delaware’s Port of Wilmington plan includes expansion; andKinder Morgan seeks new challenge in Del.
