Delaware

When the highest point in our state is only 447 feet above seal level, and the vast majority of the state lies on a coastal plain, it stands to reason that there will not be many caves here. And that is true. There is only one known cave. The Beaver Valley Cave is located near the intersection of Beaver Valley & Beaver Dam Roads in Chateau Country, just 100 feet away from the Pennsylvania border. The entrance is 24 feet wide and 5 feet high, and the main chamber is 16 feet deep, with a crawl space continuing another 40 feet further in. Lenni Lenape Indians used the cave as a resting spot and shelter when fishing in the nearby Brandywine River.

What We Have Here Is A Failure of Deficit Hawkery
Did anyone notice this article on Friday — where Senator Carper is committing to working for continued funding of the deepening dredge of the Delaware while the US Government is getting ready (prioritizing projects) for the cutbacks required by the sequester. And can I remind you that Senator Carper voted FOR said sequester?

Markell is leading the ten-day trade mission which includes Transportation Secretary Shailen Bhatt, Deputy Director for International Trade Felicia Pullam, and University of Delaware President Patrick Harker.
“Delaware’s got a great story to tell and I want to tell the story. I want Delaware to be top of mind when companies around the globe are thinking about where to expand in this country and so as these companies decide to expand, I want them to engage with us here in Delaware,” said Markell.
I am always suspicious of these goodwill and business-rousting trips aboard by any Governor of any state, especially in this day and age of the Internet where anyone can find out about any place through a Google search. I much more understand trips to conferences. But I am sure the Governor can tell me that his trips have brought business to the state and thus my wariness is unwarranted.

Remnants of the subdivision of Glenville, on Route 4 near Stanton. Glenville was prone to frequent flooding, and after the area was pretty much destroyed after Hurricane Isabel in 2003, the county bought out the residents and condemned the area. Sidewalks, driveways, and front lawns can still be seen in some spots that were abandoned.

When non-gun people shoot, they shoot skeet
I’m not saying Carper doesn’t still shoot and still enjoy chowing down on “possum, rabbit, squirrel and wild boar.” I’m simply observing that when non-gun people want to shoot something, they are typically going to shoot skeet. How do I know this? I’m a non gun person and when shooting come up as a topic, I think to myself, “I’d like to try skeet shooting, I guess.”
WASHINGTON — Sen. Tom Carper owns a 16-gauge shotgun. Rep. John Carney owns a Remington 11-87 shotgun.
The Delaware lawmakers, both Democrats, are gun owners who support banning military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. The pair also favor background checks for all gun purchases.
