That’s what this front pager in the NJ boils down to. There are some old farts in Sussex County who are just FREAKING OUT about all the crime and home invasions and loud neighbors and rap music and get offa my lawn!!!! So much so, that Jeff Christopher should get $1 million dollars to make like the Dark Knight on all the miscreants.

An Alternative Universe without the Filibuster

Filed in Delaware, National by on May 21, 2012 8 Comments

Two months ago, former Senator Ted Kaufman spoke to the monthly meeting of the Progressives Democrats for Delaware, one of the things he said that took me by surprise was his opposition to filibuster reform. Kaufman viewed the filibuster as an indispensable part of the check and balances of our government, and while he agreed that the Republicans have abused it, he would hate to see what a Republican President, a Republican House and a Republican Senate would do if minority Democrats had no power to stop legislation. But Kaufman was almost acting as if it were a fait accompli that the filibuster was going the way of the dinosaur, because he quaranteed that the Republicans, whenever they regain control of the Senate, would immediately do away with it, especially if they have a Republican President and House to work with.

So what would the last four years look like without the filibuster?

Our Daily Joe on the Trail

Is it me, or has Joe Biden aged worse than Obama has over the last four years? You really notice it in his eyes. They look almost smaller.

Tipping His Canoe into the Race

Filed in Delaware by on May 17, 2012

It seems as though Jack Markell might have a primary opponent. Magnolia resident Doug Beatty, whose only claim to fame is being the son of actor Ned Beatty, has announced that he is going to challenge Markell in the Democratic primary. That is if he can raise the filing fee.

In what has to be the biggest understatement of the year, Beatty said that he is “an extreme long shot” but thinks he can win if he can get on the ballot. I think he’s watched The Candidate too many times. His run is more like the wet dream Bobby had in Deliverance.

Keith Spanarelli to Primary Sen. Carper. Who?

Filed in Delaware by on May 16, 2012 5 Comments

I used The Google to find out that he appears to be a fan of Top Gun, at least according to what appears to be his Facebook page. Then I found his campaign page. Right now it is just a place holder with a donate button.

I am disappointed that I am not writing about our very own Jason right now. I mean, if a “Some Dude” is going to be the only Democratic challenger to Senator Carper, then I would rather it be Jason. Alas, since it is Kevin Spanarelli, I will endeavor to find out more about it.

No, Governor, We Will Not.

I am sorry, but JPMorgan Chase and the entire financial sector deserves every single ounce of derision and scrutiny they get. They have paid no price for their wrongdoing, and like any dog or insolent child, they are repeating their wrongdoing again as a result. And like any “new age” parent, Governor Markell would prefer us all to take a time out and talk nicely to child, rather than yelling at him and punishing him.
