Delaware
Delaware Political Weekly: April 14-20, 2012
1. Brad Bennett Is So-o-o-o Toast. Bear in mind that I predicted he’d lose his reelection bid handily in 2010 after his first drunk driving arrest, in October of 2010, and I was wrong. He got just over 50% of the vote, though, and there was a strong element of ‘we’ll give him one more […]
UPDATED: Delaware Executes Johnson
The second state-sponsored execution Shannon M. Johnson occurred early this morning at 2:55 AM. This is Governor Jack Markell’s second execution in 9 months. Shame on you, Governor Jack Markell.

Delaware’s poorest county: Sussex
* Poverty rate: 13.9% * Poverty rate of residents under 18: 24% * Median household income: $48,582 The Sussex poverty rate is below the national average (15%), Sussex has high home values and a homeownership rate that’s higher than the state average. With only three counties in Delaware, it’s not hard for Sussex to claim […]
DL Tracking Poll Results — Ben Mobley (R) (Round 2)
Last month, 42% of you had no idea who Ben Mobley was. (He is a Republican candidate for Insurance Commissioner). This month, that number drops to 30%, but that might not be good news for Ben, as his unfavorable rating increased from 34% to 43%. 26% have a favorable of the Republican, basically unchanged from last month’s 24%.
The Fisker Echo
I ran out of time the other day and didn’t get to post a link to Jason Starkey’s article on the state of the Fisk plant. As one laid off employee said, it’s “absolutely empty”. And, now, Romney’s campaign has gotten a hold of the Fisker story. I think it’s a stretch by the Romney team […]
DL Tracking Poll Results — Sher Valenzuela (R) (Round 2)
Last month, 44% of our poll takers did not know who Sher Valenzeula was. After her official campaign announcement with running mate Jeff Cragg, that number has dropped to 13%, and in so doing, raised her favorable rating from 11% last month to 25% this month. That’s the good news. The bad news is that her unfavorability rating has increased as well, from 48% to 61%.
Wingnut Blather Collides With The Real World on the Dover City Council -or- David Anderson Gets a Civics Lesson
Wingnut blather about tax cuts and “austerity” sounds good on the campaign trail, but as the Dover City Council’s resident Teapartier, David Andersen, just found out, enacting brainless wingnut economic theories is much easier said than done.
DL Tracking Poll Results — Jeff Cragg (R) (Round 2)
And we’re back. Republican Jeff Cragg got a little extra voting time in the spot light due to my hectic schedule. Let’s see if it improved his poll standing at all. Last month, the presumptive Republican gubernatorial challenger garnered a 48% disapproval rating, a 24% “who the hell are you?” rating, and a 28% approval rating. A full month of exposure to the Delaware electorate, and an official launch of the Cragg-Valenzuela campaign has increased Cragg’s disapproval rating to 51%, but also his approval rating, now at 33%. 15% are still in the dark as to who the hell he is.
Why Would FOIA Not Apply to the Wilmington Mayor’s Office?
DelCOG (and John Flaherty) informs us of something pretty alarming — that AG Biden’s office officially thinks that the Office of the Wilmington Mayor is *not* covered by FOIA. How can that be, you ask? According to the DelCOG letter, the AGs office has issued an opinion at the Wilmington Mayor’s office is not subject to FOIA because the Mayor’s office is a 1 person agency.
