Shaking Things Up in Sussex

Filed in Delaware by on May 6, 2010 3 Comments

We mentioned last week that Eric “St. Bodie Girl” Bodenweiser filed to run against Sen. Joe Booth in the Confederate Party primary for the 19th Senate district seat. Bodie has told anyone who will listen to him (and that seems to be the Klan and the Delaware 9/12 “patriots”), that he plans to spend $100,000 […]

I’m Glad I’m Raising A Buffy And Not A Bella

Given the Twilight series rage I purchased the books for my preteen daughter.  I mean, everyone was reading them.  Everyone was raving.  But… My daughter doesn’t like Twilight.  She likes the Vampire Diaries and the Vampire Academy, so it isn’t the genre… It’s Twilight specifically.  Which I found perplexing, since the back covers all read […]

The Associated Press reports that Astra Zeneca has agreed to pay a $520 million settlement to the Federal government to resolve allegations of illegally marketing its anti-psychotic drug, Seroquel. The company was alleged to have “marketed Seroquel for off-label uses — those not approved by federal drug regulators — including insomnia and psychiatric conditions other […]

Wingnuts Don’t Only Run for Congress

Angel Clark over at delawarepolitics.net posted an interview she did with Matthew Walsh, who is running for Mayor of Georgetown. Now if I was running for mayor of Georgetown, or any other city in Delaware or the US for that matter, I’d address things that I believed the voters would be concerned about, such as […]

Vote!

Twitter points us to a fun little survey at Chris Cillizza’s The Fix, a fantasy political draft. Cillizza is asking what current politician is a future star. Our very own governor, Jack Markell, is one of the choices. You may now return to your regularly scheduled blogging.

A Tale of Two Senators

Filed in Delaware, National by on April 21, 2010 4 Comments

I don’t know if you caught the story in the News Journal this morning featuring the work that Senator Kaufman is doing on financial reform.  He talks passionately about dismantling Too Big To Fail and reinstating much of the Glass-Steagall act. By contrast, Tom Carper (the one we are stuck with) is already back-pedaling on […]

I Feel Like I’ve Heard This Song Before

Filed in Delaware by on April 21, 2010 23 Comments

Delaware’s very own Tom Carper is ready to surrender and weaken the Financial Reform bill right when Republicans seem to be weakening. Carper, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, said that he thinks a bipartisan deal can be reached on financial regulatory reform legislation, and argued it should be done by dropping the most […]

Legislative Pre-Game Show Plus Rant: Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Filed in Delaware by on April 20, 2010 17 Comments

OK, folks, it’s rant time. The obligatory and halfhearted hearing into the Insurance Commissioner’s office can only be described as pathetic. Based on published reports and what was reported at DL, there appeared to have been next-to-no preparation by the respective committee members. Little in the way of followup questions. And the weak post-hearing handwringing […]
