Supreme Court To Trump: ‘You’re Busted’

Filed in Featured, National by on February 22, 2021 3 Comments

FINALLY: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a plea from former President Trump to block New York state prosecutors from accessing his tax returns. The decision allows Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance to gain copies of Trump’s personal financial records from lenders and accountants used by the former president for his business. A New York […]

This Cancun thing is sticking to Ted Cruz because everyone knows he is a huge asshole.

Resign Ted!

The Houston Chronicle, one of the largest papers in the state, called for Cruz to resign over the fiasco. “Take our advice, senator, and resign,” the editorial board wrote. “Seems like you could use a break and we could, too, from an ineffective politician who, even in crisis, puts his personal itinerary before the needs of Texans.”

What are Republicans pretending to be mad about today? Biden has been President for four weeks and already 1/2 a million people have died of Covid.  He is the worst Hitler since Hitler!

Song of the Day 2/21: The Go-Go’s, “Vacation”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, National by on February 21, 2021 0 Comments

In one sense I can sympathize with Ted Cruz — who doesn’t want a vacation from the cold and snow? Cruz is such a wuss he vamoosed after a cold couple of days. Northerners have put up with it for weeks now. The Go-Go’s released this title song in 1982 as the first single from […]

Erik Prince, the mercenary billionaire who’s high on the list of Republicans who should swing from the gallows, has violated the UN’s arms embargo on Libya by procuring $80 million worth of weapons, drones and mercenaries to a Libyan warlord seeking to overthrow the government. Republicans are such fucking hypocrites. Reagan talked of a shining […]

The two dumbest Boomer arguments for not doing student loan relief

1) I worked my way through college.
2) You’ll help people who are _______ (too lazy/too rich/too brown skinned/etc).

Democrats have Republicans wrong-footed on this and so many issues. It is sickening to know that they will not press their advantage.

The battle for the [bloated, disease ridden] heart of American conservatism

Filed in National by on February 20, 2021 2 Comments

What does it mean to be a conservative? Does it mean putting a premium on small government & personal responsibility as a few DC-based op-ed writers tend to understand it? Or does it mean what 99% of conservatives think it means – being a hate-filled racist who only wants to fuck shit up?

As a proponent of conservatism in America, Limbaugh was a failure who in his later years abandoned the project of advancing a positive agenda, culminating in his alignment with the vulgar style and populist anti-leftism of Donald Trump. Character no longer mattered. Budget deficits no longer mattered. Free trade no longer mattered. Nepotism no longer mattered. Lavishing praise on foreign dictators no longer mattered.

All that mattered was owning the libs in the culture war, in part to avenge a deeply felt sense of aggrievement. Limbaugh and Trump were alike in attaining great wealth and political influence while still talking and seeming to feel as though society was stacked against guys like them.

The last guy

Filed in National by on February 20, 2021 5 Comments

My life has been objectively better since last guy stopped dominating the headlines. I’m enjoying taking part in the new national pastime – ignoring that loser. And yet part of me is thrilled to see that the GOP is still committed to this DEEPLY unpopular candidate.

Charlie Carretti, a retiree in Honesdale who used to work in publishing, said, “The guy did a great job as president, and Democrats just don’t want to give that to him.” He called the impeachment case “a joke, a charade and a waste of time” that was designed by Democrats “only to hurt the guy.”

Carretti, 70, said that he hopes (redacted) runs again in 2024 and that (redacted), as his impeachment defense lawyers argued, was devoid of responsibility for the violent Capitol mob.

Own the Libs!

Filed in National by on February 19, 2021 6 Comments

I haven’t been following this Cuomo thing. A mean, bad guy, corrupt? I guess we’ll find out.

But whatever happens, getting rid of corrupt politicians whether they are D’s or R’s is what is supposed to happen.

Republicans seem to think that getting rid of corrupt D’s is somehow owning libs.

Song of the Day 2/18: James Taylor, “Mexico”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, National by on February 18, 2021 0 Comments

Sorry for all the James Taylor lately — I’ve been suffering from insomnia — but the chance to belittle Ted Cruz was just too strong to pass up. Cruz is coming home from his “long-planned family vacation” amid an avalanche of criticism, which stands to get worse once more people find out he was staying […]

The Delaware GOP, like state Republican parties across the land, has turned itself over to the dimmest among them. While Witless Lauren Witzke — motto: “Cracked? Oh, I though you said crack” — pokes the peckerwoods on Twitter, Dave Lawson performs his Louie Gohmert act for the Joint Finance Committee. Given the News Journal’s abdication […]

Song of the Day 2/17: The Eagles, “Love Will Keep Us Alive”

Gee, sure is cold in Texas. Just goes to show that, on occasion, hell freezes over. That was the name of the 1994 reunion tour on which introduced this tune, with lead vocal by bassist Timothy B. Schmit. The ultimate SoCal soft rockers had disbanded in 1980, and didn’t have much new material for the […]

In this special Edition of Highlands Bunker, local activist Monique Fegans joins Rob in the virtual bunker to talk about the case of Simba, a 14-year-old local activist who was unjustly charged during a protest last September.

Bethany Hall Long Announces Bid for Delaware Governor

I don’t really care what happened to Columbus statue.  The real question is when is the centerpiece statue of the Aubrey Plaza Plaza being dedicated?

Whatever happened to those Columbus and Caesar Rodney statues taken down in Wilmington?
